Do you really think that wouldn't spiral out of control once a few nukes land and result in the end of the world?

What is an American president supposed to do if Miami or LA gets nuked? What is a Russian president supposed to do if Saint Petersburg or Vladivostok gets nuked? These are high as phuck stakes brah.
Our idiot government is going to get us all killed.

I have assessed that North Montana, based on overall wind direction and annual wind pattern, is the place to be when it happens.

I think there is probably a lot of truth to this unfortunately. Russian conventional forces failing to take Mariupol, where they have numerical, naval, and air superiority?

yes but lolz on you for not knowing about the USA having a similar electronic inference mesh network spanning the ocean. It's not talked about a lot. Unlike others that brag, if the US is bragging publicly, it's usually not its actually intended purpose. It's the latest upgrade from the old SOSUS network.

US Military/Political Losses:

Vietnam

Lebanon
Iraq

1/2 point for Korea

I don't think our conversations need to involve being better than anyone. They should probably just focus on finishing what we start, or at least making sure we enter conflicts with the correct intentions. Because we are not.

Force on Force in a neutral battle space, we are up there. Not invincible though. The arrogance of our God complex is a huge contributing factor to those military/political losses.

Imagine thinking there is a most relevant delivery mechanism for nuclear warheads. Each missile (ICBM) has three warheads that can be delivered to three different targets anywhere on the planet. Subs do not have that capacity.

They each have their own purpose. They all compliment each other and all of them are needed for MAD.

I tend to look at aviation as a good measure of strength for a country since air superiority is usually key. The US developed a 5th gen fightetr jet engine in 1993 I believe, China and Russia barely are catching to the 30+ year old f119 and the US stated their 6th gen ACE engines will be ready for 6th gen airframes by 2028. There's a lot of catching up the other great powers need to do

in a total war, even conventional, the us would stomp everyone. once you stop pussyfooting around civilian deaths the game changes.

just look what the "allies" did to dresen in ww2. that would be nothing comapared to what the us is capable of today.

People seem to have no conception of what war is. Civilian deaths are inevitable during wartime. It's horrible, but it's what happens.

I'm talking to Americans who are outraged by the "war crimes" of Russia but then with absolutely zero sense of irony or introspection flattly deny that the US commits the exact same "war crimes" when it uses warfare in its own strategic interest. Same with Russians, "oh we wage moral war on Ukraine, unlike the Americans who just bomb civilians."

Are these people taking the piss or is their cognative dissonance really that strong? It's unbelievable.

We killed entire generations of civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan. People complained a chit ton about ROE, but as a whole, we merked those populations.

You point is an important part of this conversation. The US is extremely hypocritical with their use of force. I would attribute that to the God complex as well. This is not lost on everyone. Even military members are aware. It should be brought up though.

I'm not even talking about at the state level, because of course states are hypocritical when it comes to their own strategic imperatives. I'm talking about at the individual level. The fact that ordinary people can't distinguish between propaganda and reality is something that gives me strong pause about our poorly developed species.

The popular narrative is controlled and social cohesion has broken down. The control of the narrative by government and media wouldn't be so poisonous if people still spent time IRL sharing their own stories with their family, friends, and neighbors. Instead so-called social media has been doing a very good job of only feeding people more of what they like for clicks and confirming biases.

This thread also makes me think of the old novel, Ender's Game, where the government put the most talented children in charge of real troops because said children weren't aware of the true costs of their strategic decisions.

We are an emotional, and by extension irrational species. I think a contributing factor to this hypocrisy is cognitive dissonance (applied on the individual and collective levels). We don't want to believe we are flawed at all, let alone that we have committed horrible, insane, and disgusting atrocities. MANY TIMES!! Honest self-analysis can be extremely painful in the beginning. So our ego uses it's natural self-defense mechanism (denial).

-The US is the greatest country in the world.
-The US alone is responsible for unimaginable pain and suffering. From it's very beginning, and it is still taking place today.

Those two statements can seem to directly conflict each other. Of course, we would rather believe the more appealing statement, and since the other one is extremely compromising on a moral and ethical level, let's just do away with that one. I agree with you that it is super obvious, and at first I don't understand how people miss it. However, that is just me projecting my own standards on others which is inappropriate of me.

It is a natural response to subconsciously processing conflicting ideas which hold a lot of value to the observer.

I do not believe there is anything wrong with critiquing our country. That is literally what we are doing every time we vote,. As a democracy, I feel it is important for us to critique our government. We don't have to disown the U.S. for past atrocities. We don't have to be ashamed about them. We just have to be better. That starts with simply acknowledging America's unfavorable behavior. As we are now.

In conventional warfare, I think we'd mop just about anybody, even several large countries at once. But if it came to WW, I don't think it'd be done conventionally. Cyber security alone could break our country. An EMP from a large nuke over the US would cripple most of the US instantly. So it's pretty hard to say imo. Wars aren't that simple, but when it comes to equipment, technology, and the volume of it, we're unmatched even after we gave away 10s of thousands of vehicles to Afghanistan.
