Honestly I'm so tired of the office. It's easy work and I should be thankful, but I'm jealous of folks who are doing some sort of labor and working outdoors.

I went from working labour and warehouse jobs to office/management stuff and still look back fondly at the ol' days. A mix of both would probably be the ideal tbh

The best thing I “love” about my job, is that I get paid good money to not work a lot & the status that comes with my
Job title.
If you’re working yourself to the bone with your gay buddies on a ship, dat ain’t it mane. With that said, I would love to experience what you do for a weekend.

Someone with money can hire a maid to clean and a chef to cook. They can buy real estate and work less hours. They can outsource their job and work less hours.

My plan is to leverage my skills into getting stake in a boat with $0 down just a contract requiring me to run it for (x) years. Not common but also not unheard of and have been making a decent name for myself so far.
The time aspect does not bother me because there is literally nothing I would rather do, and on slow years sometimes I will take 6 months off.
For deckhands even making 75k in a few months and then getting 6+ months to either work, travel etc. is not a bad gig.
It's a live fishery so trips are short lots of guys are home all the time, as a young guy trying to make moves I just grind as hard as the weather will allow.

There is a major difference between working hard consistently and doing the work that a crab fisherman does. From what I can tell the work is highly stressful and its attributes could directly impact longevity. The combination of high stress and lack of sleep will easily take years off your life. It blows my mind that I actually have to spell that out?

But the soul killing boredom though...not seeing the sky, off work at the same time as nearly everyone else so always dealing with crowds and traffic, staring at a screen or a wall with no real work to do, but you can't leave...gotta wait out the clock. Misery.

IMO if you can get ownership of your own boat by 35-ish that's a reasonable time to be settling down more if you want to have a family.

i'm fairly confident you didn't want to attribute "making it" to anything other than "hard work".
hell, you even espoused getting 2 jobs for 25k/ year at 80 hours a week and are in this thread now stating a discrepancy between time exchanged and money made
which, again, is directly counteractive to what you were arguing about before

blah, blah, blah... i believe even more you didn't do chit on your ownthe same could be said for someone starting their own business. when they have nothing starting from scratch building from the ground up. i suppose then you'd be telling them their work is not worth the money exchanged?
i dont think op is in the territory of years off his life yet tbh

My position is that doing this particular job.....you are making money sure.....and that money can give you more time.....but at the same time those job conditions will more than likely shorten your life span. There are many other ways to make money without risking your health.
If thats the only thing you are capable of....then of course go do that (if you were gifted the job as it seems hard to come by) but my preference would be to make money while I sleep.

I feel like people who want to do nothing and sit on a beach have never actually had that luxury before, it gets old fast, I've made and lost a (relatively) lot of money in my life and done all sorts of **** and nothing has brought me fulfillment like what I do now. Everything I have is paid off I don't work like this because I have to.
The idea of outfitting a boat and pioneering a new fishery or something is much more appealing to me than drinking margaritas on the beach. I live on the beach it gets boring like everything else.

I was amazed how freaking easy the job was for more pay. Like, WTH? How does this make sense?
But the soul killing boredom though...not seeing the sky, off work at the same time as nearly everyone else so always dealing with crowds and traffic, staring at a screen or a wall with no real work to do, but you can't leave...gotta wait out the clock. Misery.

i'm fairly confident you didn't want to attribute "making it" to anything other than "hard work".
hell, you even espoused getting 2 jobs for 25k/ year at 80 hours a week and are in this thread now stating a discrepancy between time exchanged and money made
which, again, is directly counteractive to what you were arguing about before
blah, blah, blah... i believe even more you didn't do chit on your own
the same could be said for someone starting their own business. when they have nothing starting from scratch building from the ground up. i suppose then you'd be telling them their work is not worth the money exchanged?
i dont think op is in the territory of years off his life yet tbh
but i certainly agree it's not a good habit
