we used to have a '70 (i think) crewcab international with an 8ft bed.
it was a damn beast.
it was a work truck though.
used for hauling firewood primarily and our boat.
though it was a standard and that gave my dad trouble when it came to launching and pulling the boat out of the water.

so we sold that and bought a conversion van.

the next truck was 4 wheel drive and automatic and had an 8ft bed also but standard cab so was easier to maneuver.
that was a work truck also.

8ft beds are nice for 8ft building materials (tail gate up) and hauling fire wood.

but a crewcab 6.5 bed is fine for building material also.
you just put the tailgate down.

and if you are getting 10ft lumber you are putting the gate down on all trucks.

Though i've put 16ft lumber in an 8ft bed.
would never do that in a 6.5ft bed.

8ft here but almost useless to haul things since I have a transfer tank and 5th wheel hitch in it
