Comic book movies were pretty good in the 2000s and early 2010s. Back then, they were more grounded and adult-oriented. It's been all downhill since Disney took over, though. Now it's all bright colors, kid friendly, and super woke. End Game was the peak. It should've stopped there.

the 90s were a huge decade for comics though - just because they hadn't reached widespread appeal doesn't mean people weren't reading them back then. Almost all the storylines they are using for movies are from 90s books

They are typically VERY entertaining movies.

When I was a kid there was no hope that any of these movies could exist. If they tried they always looked terrible. Now, the movies look great and it's a wonder to see them.

Also, comics have some of the most epic stories out of any place to find a story. When I used to read comics they were JAW DROPPING at times and edge of your seat stories. I'm an avid reader and can't think of any series of books or anything that had as much character development and things going on as comics.

In addition, the artwork is fantastic in many comics. It makes still images look like a movie and frequently has amazing detail.

On top of all of that, the best superhero stories are metaphors for real life. Superman is about being an outsider who is trying hard to make life work. It's also about humility and sacrifice. It's about selfless service to others, and a lot more. Batman is about a trauma victim whose life is ruined but he decided not to be selfish about it.

A retard watching a movie will not get what the THEME of the movie is. They will just see the images on the screen and say "I like data" or "dat's dumb".

In another thread I'm in, people cannot talk about a TV show without losing their minds.

Yes, and the same as Biblical stories.

Voltaire wrote stories like this in the 1700s. The theme was an important philosophical point but the overt story was an adventure, something science fiction, etc.

Alot of us grew up reading comics and having no other interpretation of these wild stories other then drawings and our imagination.

Putting them on the big screen with modern movie special effects is just awesome and next level.

I'm Bout to be 35 years old and I got complete goosebumps throughout many moments of these movies cause it was my boyhood stories "come to life" or so to speak.


Aside from that they are generally just fun movies most people can enjoy. If you're watching them expecting anything other then popcorn flicks you're doing it wrong.

This. Marvel and sports fan are eerily similar.

They way they get emotionally invested is baffling. Decorating and wearing their superheroes or sports team affiliating team.

I watch the occasional mma, baseball, football, and cape chit movies once in a while, but some mutha here and society take it way too seriously. Starting fights, stabbing and killing people over the most trivial things. No grown man should be this invested in either of these unless you have money via sports wagering.

Me too.

The stories are very creative.

I just watched the latest Dr. Strange and it's very creative with parallel universe versions of the same person and so forth. You aren't getting that from average media which tends to have the same plot over and over.

I cried during a few of the Marvel movies, lol.

There's a lot of quality themes in a good superhero movie.

Every Fast and Furious movie pushes the limit to see how much more this can be milked with each one.

This is an idiotic opinion from a person who thinks they are smart.

Marvel movies, Star Wars, etc aren't about "science" and so don't have to be scientifically accurate. An idiot will watch someone flying and say "dat's not possible" when the story is not about flying men.

Superman is about what a normal man who is a good person would do if he could. A normal man that could heard a trapped child a 1,000 miles away would drop everything and fly there if he could.

That's why Superman flies, not because it has anything to do with science.

Star Wars is not about spaceships or "hyperdrive" it's about how to approach life, by accepting it or fighting it and becoming angry.

If you are dumb, or never took an English class, or were too dumb to pay attention, then you will not understand a theme and that a story is not what it appears.

Downey was in Hollywood hell doing bit parts on TV and B movies until iron man came along.
hell i didn't even know the dude was still alive he was in and out of rehab so much.

they paid him something like 500k for the first iron man film which isn't much for a lead role in a major film.
turned out to be a bargain for them.

I remember thinking when i heard it was coming out how bad it would be based on past superhero movies.
then it just blew up and it was all anyone was talking about.

I just watched it last weekend with my 13 yr old.
it's a good movie.

i started collecting in high school mid 80's and stopped around mid 90's.
they got expensive and i had rent, car, ect.

I still have them in storage.

I think Iron Man os the best of the MCU and actually stands out as just a good action movie.

I distinctly remember a co worker scoffing when RDJ was cast. And I said, why that's the most perfect casting - Tony Stark is alcoholic and RDJ was a drug addict.

I know I had also forgotten just how talented RDJ was
