I've mostly only gone back and forth between libertarian and conservative, but that's about it.

Biggest change I've seen personally is a friend who moved to the DC area and went to college there. Went from libertarian to progressive (although he still claims to be a libertarian).

Overall I've noticed a lot of friends just move a little bit more right overall. Although I think it's just the left moving so far left that they now seem more right-leaning by comparison.

My dad was a communist, who soft taught me communsit principles, I read books by communist authors. When I was younger I believed in communist values.

Now I think free markets are preferable, taxes should be kept at a minimum and the only way to take people out of poverty effectively is to increase their productivity.

The reason I changed was that for sometime I became very interested in why some countries are rich and why some are poor. After studying different countries and reading a lot of books, it's obvious that communist countries disincentivise productivity and that the centrally planned production is inefficient because money spent in the market place (in capitalism) acts as a singal for production.

When there are not signals the central planners just produce anything and they do so inefficiently.

People often switch views as they get older and their experiences change

The most prevalent one in my experience is when kids at school/college think really left-wing, then as they grow up, start working & paying taxes and just gain more experience of the how the world works they become more right wing.

Don't you know, it's (D)ifferent.
Freedom of speech is a principle pillar of a free government; when this support is taken away, the constitution of a free society is dissolved and tyranny is erected on its ruins.

I had a buddy at work who was pretty Left and made the switch.

I don't flaunt my political affiliations at work, but when I hear something that doesn't make sense (ie 95% of Leftism), I'm happy to engage.

Our workplace served people Medicaid or poorer essentially the vast majority of the time. We had some not super in depth discussions regarding economics, racism (he is a minority) etc. One day, out of nowhere, shortly after Xiden got elected - he came up to me and told me, "Trump was right." I was shocked to say the least. It gives me hope that the small number of Lefties that are actually intelligent are capable of being saved.

This girl I used to be fwb with is hardcore left and she posted some stupid meme saying “Having no political position IS a political position.”

I’m like okay, so if I vote 3rd party or not at all, I am taking a political position. And if I do take a position and choose the right, I’m making the wrong political decision. So it all really just circles back to “Vote for my party or you’re the enemy.”

This is the same bitch who says she’s in favor of vigilantism because she was supposedly raped and hates the system. I told her that all vigilantism is at the end of the day is YOU being the judge, jury, and executioner. She just doesn’t get it and can’t think of better ideas to adjust the legal system. Fukking idiot.

My parents went from Rep during the Bush/early Obama days to Dem during the late Obama/Trump days. My mom is now a Rep again cuz she's sick of the woke chit and was always a hardcore right-winger in the past. My dad was also previously a Communist.

I went from more right-leaning as a kid to far left to far less left over the past 5 or so years. I'm still liberal on the majority of things, but really I hate the woke chit now almost as much as the next miscer (tho I definitely obsess about it less). My gf also went from hardcore leftie feminist to a borderline Trump-supporter. I think the post-Trump clown world plus moving to LA a couple years back made us turn on a lot of leftist ideology just because people are so fuking delusional about this chit here.

People change political beliefs all the damn time AFAIK.

They change their beliefs depending upon the candidate. I remember having convos with my mom and was shocked she was voting D when election time came. She felt that strongly against Trump.

Everyone has a breaking point, and I think even the staunchest supporters on either side will switch if they just can't stand the candidate and what they stand for

Another thing I found really interesting are the studies done on identical twins separated at birth. They studied their political views and despite growing up in completely different environments, they still held many similar views. So there is definitely a genetic component to politics.

You guys should also read The Unabomber Ted Kaczynski’s manifesto “Industrial Society and it’s Future.” He is mostly anti left and has some scary accurate predictions on what they would do but also calls out conservatives.

This was in the mid 90’s:

“A significant portion of the document is dedicated to discussing left-wing politics, Kaczynski attributing many of society's issues to leftists.[86] He defines leftists as "mainly socialists, collectivists, 'politically correct' types, feminists, gay and disability activists, animal rights activists and the like".[87] He believes that over-socialization and feelings of inferiority are primary drivers of leftism,[81] and derides it as "one of the most widespread manifestations of the craziness of our world".[87] Kaczynski adds that the type of movement he envisions must be anti-leftist and refrain from collaboration with leftists, as, in his view, "leftism is in the long run inconsistent with wild nature, with human freedom and with the elimination of modern technology".[79] He also criticizes conservatives, describing them as "fools who whine about the decay of traditional values, yet ... enthusiastically support technological progress and economic growth", things he argues have led to this decay.[87]”

Damn…

Up until recently there really wasnt a deep rift between the two parties. You could sort of get the best of both worlds. Even vote for either or because you felt they had good intentions.

Those times are clearly over.

tbf the Democrats back then weren't as bad as they are today though, if you're still a liberal after the party went full on clown world then you're NPC scum srs.

A lot more people seem to leave the left than vice versa though

Good friend (only Hispanic guy I know that is a surfer) switched from Dem to Conservative. Got the jab, realized it was all a larp, and started changing his views. His wife is a hardcore Lib white woman, and he can't even talk about much of the news much less politics with her anymore. It's nice to see the guy come around, he is a Pharmaceutical Rep and it's opened his eyes to all the fukery with big pharma, some of the stories he tells me are unbelievable.

I did it but I didn't really care about politics when I was a liberal. I got really into it and moved a lot more to the right. I'm now more center right. I think it's pretty rare for people with real opinions. It is probably common for people like me who didn't really have an ideology but once you gain an ideology it's really hard to move.

Changed from republican to libertarian due to McCain/Romney and how Ron Paul was treated by his own party. Ron Paul was a massive red pill in regards to waking up to how politics and the world is run.

Still registered libertarian, but vote straight R. I have major problems with what libertarianism has become. While it is absolutely full of people who are the opposite of the NPC, encompassing both those who would be considered far right and far left, it seems the social issues brought in by the far left type does not make the party pragmatic for long term social cohesion necessary for a functioning country.

I've seen people who were basically conservative on the right become a government employee or a union employee and start changing their views. Mainly because democrats pander to those groups.

I've seen a lot of young people with liberal views, once they get a job where they really work hard and start paying their own bills, have an incident where they realize the police can't protect them, they start leaning right real fast. Once you get body slammed by taxes after working your ass off you stop feeling sorry for those who don't.

I switched from Republican to Trumplican. I have never ever voted for a Democrat.

However, I don't vote for a Republican because there is a R next to his name. I didn't vote for Songbird McCain. Fuk him, he was a complete phony. I wrote in a buddy's name.

Believe it or not, Romney was a really good governor in Massachusetts. He would have been a good president. Unfortunately, a bad 3rd debate and Trump caused him to lose his mind.

I loathe RINOS. Trump is obnoxious and lacks discipline. It turns a LOT of people off. Not me, I love the guy and his results.

Democrat party today is a bunch of different groups with a grievance. P hags and alphabets, Abortion, Defund police, Unions, Green pu$$ies, NOW. Not one common goal.

10 years ago I was on the left and supported Obama. Now I guess I am on the right, insofar I am against the Democrat agenda. I am no longer socially liberal, and no longer an atheist.

I actually hate the GOP more than I hate Democrats, they are weak and are not a serous opposition party. The right capitulates to the left far more then the left capitulates to the right. The GOP is not fighting against Biden nearly as hard as Democrats fought against Trump.

If the whole GOP was united against Biden, he would not be getting nearly as much as he wants. GOP has bailed him out multiple times.
