Did anyone you know switch political views? How rare is it?
For better or worse, I’ve gone back and forth between being mostly republican and then shifting towards an independent because I can’t accept the bullsh!t that both parties engage in. But I just can’t ever lean left.
Anyone else in a similar spot? How rare is it too see people you know go from left to right or Vice versa? I only really see it online with lefties going to the right but NEVER republicans switching to the democrats.
90% of people have zero flex in them and it’s frustrating as fuk to watch. Everyone dismisses stats that go against what they wanna believe and pump up their own numbers. Are they even conscious of this?

I've influenced my wife's political leanings, and the misc has influenced mine. I don't talk about politics with people most of the time, so I wouldn't know if they changed. Would have to specifically ask them.
I'm a registered democrat that currently votes R. I'd change to independent if I felt it mattered.
As for rarity? It's probably as rare as someone switching/losing religions (which I've done too).

I have hit my girl with so many truth bombs her liberalism has been slightly eroded, but its a hard facade to shatter.
A house divided cannot stand, and she is understanding this with the recent developments in the world that perhaps conservativism isnt quite the thing its portrayed to be by the vile media. So Im pretty sure her ballot is going to look a lot less (D)ifferent in upcoming elections.
But each person has to come to their own conclusions on what is truly important in life and the world, so all I can do is provide opposing views to what she has been indoctrinated with so far, and see if she respects me as a person enough to know what I stand for. The rest is up to her.
God help us all.

I do. Lefty dems are stupid af and don't align with middle America. But on the other hand, I don't agree with some stupid chit that the GOP wants like abortion ban (hello welfare babies) and southern border wall (waste of taxpayer money)

I used to be Dem growing up mainly due to my parents/being black. Never cared too much but I always identified as a Democrat. Growing up I was always leery of MSNBC being so one sided. Over the past 2-3 years I've done a 180 and for the first time in my life I can say I'm Convservative. Might even get a DeSantis '24 bumper sticker when the time comes.
Unfortunately the left has gone too far into pushing degen culture. People are switching a lot more than genders these these days.

One of my best friends used to be a Democrat, and was all about Obama during our college years, and a little bit after. I want to say from 2008-2014, but then he moved to California in 2015 I believe, and lived there for 5 years with his wife.
He immediately started voting for Trump, and became a Republican from 2016. I think living in California opened his eyes on how crazy the far left has become since he saw it first hand, and he despised Newsome, and all the covid lock downs. He has since moved to Fla with his wife last year lol.

girlfriends i’ve had slowly changed their political views after getting a perspective of my views that are presented in mostly undeniable objective analyses, and observing their world with a new idea makes them realize how most people around them are just copy/paste drones
was a ‘dem’ by default until around 2014, then solidified my position as a Rep in 2015.

Used to be conservative when younger, had a lot of upper-middle class kid delusions about the world (if you're poor it must be because you're lazy, billionaires are billionaires because they work harder than everyone else, welfare is just for people who don't want to work, the usual spoonfed horseshyt). Now I'm definitely centre-left, because reality, evidence and reason almost always align with the centre-left viewpoint.
I dislike the extreme left communist LARPers, as well as most of the traditional right, because again all these positions tend to fail when forced to stack up against evidence.
Don't really see my views changing significantly going forward.

My mom was a pretty staunch Conservative basically all growing up, and now she leans more left. She voted Bush the two elections, then John McCain instead of Obama.
She still disagrees heavily with gay marriage, abortion, trans etc.. but she believes the Conservative party is racist (srs) and has said she won't be voting R in the future. Im sure if there was a rockstar candidate she would go back tho.

The fact that people have such a short fukking memory that they actually think Trump was worse than Bush. Just blows my mind. He was hated among the left so fukking much. Even republicans grew tired of the guy. He got us into an illegal war all because he wanted to please daddy for finishing the job in Iraq. And then all of a sudden he’s on ELLEN DEGENERES and she’s having a ball with the guy going nuts over his paintings. It’s like everyone completely forgot just how bad he was.
Look I don’t think any father wants a guy like Trump marrying their daughter but for fuks sake prioritize policy over personality. They’ve done so many social experiments where they switch Trump’s policies with Hillary’s or Obama’s and they liked Trump’s better until they were told they switched the names. Blows my fukking mind.
But Trump bending over for Israel annoys me too. He’s not the messiah so many republicans pretend that he is.

My mother is a life long democrat and my paternal grand parents were democrats, so I leaned to the left growing up. As an adult, I found out my father was a republican. I was raised by my mother, so I had no clue about his political leanings until I was older.
At 28, I met a guy who explained why he was a republican, and most of what he said made more sense to me than the democrat philosophy. Less taxes on the rich leads to more jobs, etc.
In 2008 I voted for McCain in the primary, but after Schwarzenegger kept taking money out of our social security checks to balance the state budget, I registered as a democrat.
Once Schwarzenegger was out of office, a democrat became governor, and he did the same thing and took money out of social security to balance the budget.
I was still registered as a democrat in 2020, but voted for Trump. In my current living situation, I could get evicted for voting republican because when you register to vote, they send a card in the mail with your choice on it so others can see. I don’t want my land lady knowing I agree with the republicans.

It's pretty common among working class boomers.
My parents were "Reagan Democrats" I suppose. I know they voted for Reagan, Clinton, Gore, Bush, Obama, Romney and Trump.

Freedom of speech is a principle pillar of a free government; when this support is taken away, the constitution of a free society is dissolved and tyranny is erected on its ruins.

Eh I know some people who are legit on the fence every year and will swap from left to right randomly each election.
The only full on party swap I've seen is a couple a friends who hopped to the left when Trump became a thing.
One I assume will jump back to the right as soon as Trump doesn't run, another who will be left forever now.

was a bill clinton guy back in day.
probably because i was young and him playing sax on arsenio hall was cool.
even defended him for getting a beejer.
i mean if the president can't get his knob polished.....
then i was full perot and been registered independent since but dems of that era are pretty much considered right of center now.
that was when i learned we really did have a two party system.
was disappointed in the middle east quagmire but didn't think swapping parties would be good for the county so voted bush.
after that i honestly don't even remember the republican candidates and voted a 3rd party.
Trump said some asinine chit but i didn't want a politician after obama doubled down on the middle east.
we are now at a point where every dem is for clown world.
so i really have no choice but vote republican right now.
though being an indie has it's perks.
i'm literally the only one in my little city so the "other" party aldermen hit me up to knock on doors and mysteriously i'll find a bottle of blue label on my front porch.
so weird huh.

I was apolitical until 24. I remember a buddy of mine even asking me if I read the NY times (he was a liberal and 2 years older), and I said I didn't even know what that was. srs. Literally only cared about soccer, girls/gf, social, lifiting, school, and that's it. Lived in the present. Didn't watch tv besides soccer or random movies at theaters.
Then I became heavily conservative after one crazy fb dilemma. Now I'm apolitical again because it is a 0 sum game. I'm traditional conservative (not Republican conservative party of today because they're basically classical liberals that are closet gays). Thought about libertarian at one point but quickly realized how retarded it was en macro.
Interesting journey I've had.
