this "freedom of speech not of consequences" is the biggest cope in the world. You have ALWAYS had the right to say whatever you want WITH consequences. They would just punish you for it in the past. hanging, beheading, prison, fines its all punishment for speech. The entire point of "free speech" is that you wont be punished for your opinion.
The trial was only able to proceed because Alex Jones let it. He had every opportunity when the lawsuits came up in the discovery process to prove his words / actions fell under those protected by 1A, and that those words / actions did not fall under defamation. Defamation is clearly defined in the 1A, and is not protected. There is tons of court law giving clear definition of this distinction.

He ignored the discovery process completely because he knew he was guilty, and a moron. His legal team is also a bunch of morons who GAVE THE PLANTIFFS LEGAL TEAM TWO YEARS OF TEXT MESSAGES that proved Jones was lying.

Highly suggest folks actually READ the 1A that they like to trumpet in defense of these reckless idiots, and actually get some comprehension as to what the 1A does / does not cover. It clearly does not protect defamation, of which Jones is overwhelmingly guilty of.

Naw man, its not the same thing, and I too think Sandmann was portrayed wrongly.

Couple key points:
1. The news orgs actually participated in their cases, and in the discovery process. That is how they could prove and justify covering the story from the Native American's side. Alex Jones did not participate in the discovery process at all, and therefore the Judge ruled against him by default, and then sent the case to a jury of his peers to award damages based off defamation.

2. Alex Jones did not try to defend himself in the discovery process because he knew there was a bunch of evidence proving he knowingly and continually pushed the Sandy Hook Hoax false narrative. Its not reporting / journalism at that point.

America is not a free country. It could be worse though. I didn't have to wear a mask or get jabbed, and still lived a completely normal life the past two years AND I live in one of the most politically corrupt/liberal states in America.
