Use lifts for job interviews or a casual first date. Brief circumstances where the added height might make a better first impression. Would not recommend as an every day thing. Throws off your balance and alignment. It's like wearing high heels.

People can tell right off the bat even a half or 3/4 inch difference.

I’ve tried them before for the sake of it but do not wear them.
The lifts don’t give what they advertise, you will not be able to comfortably fit anything more than the 2 inch advertised lifts in your boots, and even less in a sneaker. The inserts that claim to give two inches in reality give closer to an inch since they actually measure 1.75 inches and you compress into them.
I’m 5’7 flat at night barefoot, 5’7 and change mid day. At night with a boot and a “2 inch” insert I measure like 5’9.5, so basically 1-1.25 inches and 1-1.25 inches for the insert. If I put them in a high top Adidas I’m like 5’9, so like 1 inch or 3/4ths of an inch sneaker heel with a one inch height boost from the insert.
It’s not worth the discomfort in my opinion. Also you never know when you’ll have to take your shoes off if you go to someone’s house, you can’t wear them if you are wearing shorts because your foot will stick out of the sneaker oddly and everyone can see, if you smashed a girl and she found out that would be embarrassing, etc.

Even when I've sparred in the boxing gym, the guys say I have a good reach for my height.

Their frame doesn't match their height. I remember seeing this guy look like a short guy on stilts from afar. Something seemed of by this creature. I look down when I can see his feet and he has boots on with like a 3in heel/bottom.
Don't do it OP. You'll look like a fookin tool and people like me can tell.

1. Elevator shoes usually look chitty and cheap
2. Inserts make you walk like you have a mental impairment, and dance even worse
3. Your feet hurt
4. The difference in height seems negligible
I’d only recommend if you are seriously very, very short. I mean like under 6’3”. Thankfully, most miscers don’t have this issue.

I've put the minimum size insole arch supports in my shoe and they're uncomfortable as fuk, especially in dress shoes.
Can't imagine wearing lifts.
With the right combat boots, you can add +2 inches in height. That's more than enough.
More than that would start looking awkward. Why add +3 inches to look like a clown when you can wear sociably accepted boots for a +2?
