This is why I'm so on the fence about this. Haven't watched any yet and still don't know if I will. The woke marketing is pushing me away so hard but then I see comments like this and it makes me think maybe I should give it a chance

Best way to watch this show is if you ignore the fact that it’s even LOTR which isn’t hard since Galadriel and Elrond are nothing like how Tolkien/Peter Jackson wrote them.

On its own Rings of Power is just another generic medieval fantasy story except this one has a multi million dollar budget to blow on CGI, marketing and nothing else. The plot is meandering and slow azfuk proberly AI generated, the dialogue is chit, and almost all the characters suck. The show should’ve been a gritty, grounded military fantasy about the Elves losing the war against Sauron, then the eventual massive Numenorean invasion of Middle Earth to help them fight and the eventual downfall of Numenor.

Just a balls to the wall all out war story. You don’t need ****git azz Harfoots or Galadriel killing trolls with one hit crits to tell that story.

According to Tolkien's own notes, Galadriel was originally an Amazonian type figure who evolved into a stateswoman.

Did he also write that she was a better warrior than Elrond and Gil Galad or are we just nitpicking scribbles to help our arguments? Like I said, the best way to enjoy RoP is to ignore the source material and judge it based on internal content. Galadriel is one of the worst characters so far. BRB leads a group of elves thru the snow and tries to abandon one to die in the cold only to criticize Harbrand in the next episode for leaving the survivors to be eaten. I haven't seen episode 3, but she is more powerful than Elrond, yes. Gil Galad, I don't think so. Gil Galad is the most badass elf (of the 2nd age), which is why when Sauron kills him, everyone is shocked and all hope feels lost.

She's a hypocrite. She's never meant to be good and righteous. There is a reason Gil Galad sent her away. She is consumed with vengeance. In LOTR, you saw how she avoided the ring knowing what she would be.

Expect to see Galadriel become more humbled as the show goes on.

Her being powerful is a reference to her magic, not her fighting abilities. There’s nothing to say that she could out fight Elrond without magic and even if there was it’s no excuse to turn Elrond into a ****git in the show.

Galadriel being a kunt is an invention of the show. Gil Galad sent her away as a reward, not a punishment and while they do point out she’s consumed with vengeance they constantly kiss her ass and tell her how great she is while the narrative tells us she’s right about everything. Which she is because Gil Galad and Elrond are retarded now

She’ll have to be humbled in the show because she will have to be more like Galadriel in the movies eventually but I doubt the writers will do it in a way that puts her on blast and knocks her off her high horse.

at least the black elf and hobbit don't have bleach blond hair like in the GOT prequil.

I hate that ugly bitch so much. Can't believe they replaced the much better looking actress with her in Spartacus. Even as a minor character she ruined the show.

Yeah its actually crazy how they make trailers like this, they did the same thing with Nope. The first trailers were about ABC, then by trailer 3-4 its XYZ. The biggest problem is that the story is slow and weak so far + Gala actress is unlikeable. So when you have a scene in a slow paced story and with Gala is being a bitch it focuses everything on the chitty writing and dialogue. There isn't like overt racism like what you would see in period piece movies. Its just alot of distrust between the races, so when they come into contact with each other they are always watchful of the present due to the past. For you history guys its like the Persian Wars in the 5th century. Athens, Corinth, Sparta and a few other Greek city states banded together to fight the Persians. Others who wanted to gain favor with the Persians like Thebes joined them. The Persians ended up losing and no one ever forgot the city-states who joined with the enemy. Its the same thing here, a number of Hume races joined the elves and a number joined Morgoth. Morgoth lost and those Humes who joined were going to be looked as traitors and scrutinized for eternity.

At this point we have to acknowledge that there is global effort to completely change and eradicate Western foundational values.

My review of the first two episodes as someone who has read every book, paper, and letter that John Tolkien or Christopher Tolkien wrote.

First, It is visually, one of the most stunning well shot media form I have ever seen. The effects, scenery, costumes, etc are all so well done, and definitely help justify the cost per episode. Finally makes having such a fancy tv worth it lol. Second, I've seen the pacing complained about, but I find it well done for something that is supposed to be a multi season show that covers thousands of years of history/lore. Hopefully the actors and dialogue will be able to stand. On that, regardless of the depiction of female Dwarves, that was a very accurate portrayal of the splendor/personalities of the golden age of the Dwarven kingdoms. Third, my complaint which encompasses all my complaints, is the timeline. There is no way to match this up with any of Tolkien's works. I understand they are trying to incorporate to entirety of the second age, but it just doesn't fit right and is a big turn off to someone like me. No, Galadriel is not some orc/Sauron hunter, and she should be married at this time. Elrond is not who he is in this show, and he Galadriel's son in law, so not sure how they will make that fit. Eregion, already exists even though it was founded by Galadriel and her husband Celeborn. There are many other issues I could "nitpick" on the timeline, but I instead have just decided to watch it as fan fiction as opposed to some type of cannon. After all, there were many timeline/event issues in the LOTR movies but I still loved them

As for the "woke" casting. Although I hate almost all the "woke stuff" I don't think its been that bad. There is definitely some "female empowerment" scenes, but as for the specific racial makeup I don't care too much. I understand all the arguments to be made against it/hypocrisy, but multi cultured societies will have multi-ethnic castings

I still don’t like Galadriel but she is growing on me a bit. I like her when she talks calm and soft, it fits her well. But when she rages and tries to act mad it doesn’t really work.

Adar is prob my fav guy rn, just wants to lead his orcs to the promise land.

Arondir, black elf, his hair looks weird but he is fine, the humans are coming around to him bc he doesn’t have disdain for them and actually wants to help them.

Not sure how Bronwyn turned from a villager to Xena but I roll my eyes everytime she flies thru the air fking orcs up.

The Numenor fight scene was pretty sick, not sure where all those horses came from (three ships) but I liked it. Galadriel was on that Hold L + Press X to dodge time when she was riding through the town. The fighting skills of elves, humes, and orcs are on display. Elvs are agile af with great vision and nimble enough to defeat bigger and more enemies with ease. Humans with their training can easily fk orcs up. The orcs’ strat is to just overwhelm in numbers and hope to surround and collapse onto whoever they are attacking.

Adar with the 1000 IQ move to pretend to hold onto the hilt but gives it away to the old guy. Old guy puts it into the convenient slot in the rock altar that triggers the water to break through and flood Mount Doom (I think) which will lead to bad chit.

If RoP keeps the majority of the story on Gala, Halbrand, Adar, and whatever comes out of Mount Doom I think it will be solid.

Most of the woke stuff that was there isn’t really there anymore. The humes who hated the elves at the start were the ones who joined with Adar to attack their own village. The non-orc loving humes appreciate Galadriel and are even in awe of her legend + fighting ability. The episode ended right as the village got fkt by the volcano shockwave so we’ll have to see who is left and who/what is going to fill the voids.

Yeah I watch all those Youtube guys too, at first it was alot of “they hate me/us” “I can do it” but its not so much of that now. The different races don’t like each other for certain reasons. The elves like some humans but hate others that join the bad guys. The elves like elves but hate elves who joined the dark side. And the elves pretty much hate all orcs (former elves).

I just want to know why galadriel perked up about riding a horse and was like "omg did you say RIDE???"

and then there was a 4 minute silent film of her riding a horse in extreme exuberance in incredibly slow motion.

What am I learning about her with this?

Was this her first time on a horse ever? That doesn't sound right.

Does she really really really love horses? Why? Does it come up later as some useful character development? Was there foreshadowing that told us she was this passionate about horses that I missed?

Is anyone still watching this? Its actually getting better from where it was weeks ago. The slow story is actually semi interesting, especially now that the Southlands have turned into Mordor.

Season finale was last night. The show definitely ended on a much higher note than the early episodes. There isn’t any character that I love, but Halbrand, Adar, and Nori are the most solid. Season ended on a couple of fake outs and cliffhangers that it will expand out into seasons 2-5. Unlike House of Dragon there was really no need for a slow paced beginning, it doesn’t seem like anything from the earlier episodes affected what the story ended up as.
