Set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, the series is based on author J. R. R. Tolkien's history of Middle-earth. It begins during a time of relative peace and covers all the major events of Middle-earth's Second Age: the forging of the Rings of Power, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the fall of the island kingdom of Númenor, and the last alliance between Elves and Men. These events take place over thousands of years in Tolkien's original stories but are condensed for the series.
The biggest issue that I had with the early trailers is that they focused them on woke chit, black elves, forbidden love, female empowerment. After watching the first two episodes its barely about any of that so far. I think Amazon purposely put out those first trailers so that there would be rage about the “wokism” and would draw more attention to it good or bad. In the last three trailers they were mainly about the actual story not woke chit.
I watched the first episode last night. It actually wasn’t that bad. Not sure if I like the chick that plays Glad, her face and eyes look weird when she is talking. The black elf/whit chick love thing is there but not crazily overt. Humans and elves hate each other, the elves were tasked with protecting/patrolling a certain area against bad guys and they ended up liking each other. The trailers made it seem worse than what it actually was.
Just watched the second episode. I’m not a big fan of pretty different races into already established storylines. Theres only two black characters in the show, neither of which make any sort of point to them being darker skinned. I think if you just look at elves as elves and dwarfs as dwarfs then them having different colored skin hardly matters.
Scenery looks fine, the story is fine so far, Gala puts herself on a centuries long revenge mission, seems like there is a good build up to the big bad that is coming.
Try to limit spoilers if you can

First episode was very stunning visually. Scenes are well shot. As a big lord of the rings fnatic I am giving this show a fair chance. Casting and writing I’ll judge later on.
I only ever saw one episode of GoT so haven’t seen house of dragon which it’s been compared to. I was living with my wife and kids when it was popular and much of it I deemed inappropriate to watch With little people!

Would enjoy it more if no black elf and hobbit. No racist but just doesn't belong to the already existing world that was without them. Seems so forced. Black humans I would understand.

Foundation on Apple TV got some criticism for “wokeism” for turning two of the main male characters into black females. But I can honestly say it was fine and they didn’t focus on any race/gender chit at all — I’m fine with swapping out genders and races in the name of inclusion.
By contrast, the black and female characters here are totally gratuitous and distract from the story to make political points. No thanks Jeff.

So far the show is actually better than I expected, but also STRONG wtf at making Durin’s wife black lmao. That’s even worse than the Puerto Rican wood-elf they’re setting up to be the hero.

Besides the woke stuff, which is very noticeable it just doesn't give the same feeling seeing black elfs. the writing, jokes, and charaters are very bad too.
None of the charaters were intressting. i had to skip alot of scenes, the hobbits sucked the most of all.
if those were decent it would be a good show, but right now it is just terrible. will still watch it cause im a lotr nerd. but i was hoping for so much more for this.
the triology of lord of the rings is just unmatchable.

There's no storyline. None of it makes any sense. It is probably some of the worst written episodes I could imagine along with the dialogue. LOL at the boat/stone dialogue with brother and acting like that was wisdomatic. Brutal writing.
The entire thing has been woke. This chick is somehow the greatest elvish fighter and can kill a cave dwelling ice mountain troll with ease while all the men were near death and were no match. She's so ruthless and has the never give up mentality while these followers of hers just give up.
Don't even get me started with the dynamic of the dwarf couple. Always making the guy a cuck. The black elf parts were brutal writing again especially with the evil white racist guy as always.
Or how about the part where the chick and son almost dies from a lowly goblin, but eventually kills it and brings the head and slams it down like she's the fukking boss and these beta men should listen to the woman! Female empowerment!
Every white guy in this is a beta cuck. The strongest ones are the black elf and the white elvish women. Then the rest of the time is spent on 2 female children caring for a giant random guy that came from a fireball that's supposed to be like gandelf or something.
As I thought this show over and took in what I just watched outside of the graphics and basic entertainment of the views and scenery, it is one of the worst written shows I have ever watched. It isn't LOTR in any way. They're just making up characters and creating the most weird dynamic between characters. Don't even get me started on the ocean stuff. The dialogues are written by women 100%.
I won't continue watching this show. Almost disgusted by it for ****ting on LOTR so bad.

EDIT: some spoilers so don't read if you didn't watch and want to.
I watched it because its LOTR and I love the books/movies but I just... don't care
None of the characters are interesting. Galadriel and Elrond are two of the best characters in the original movies and making a show about them COULD have been really good. But they failed with the casting, storyline, and in general everything about both of them as they are both boring and did nothing for two episodes. The random hobbit people are useless and have no story or intrigue. The meteor guy is probably the only thing that was interesting; I think he must be Gandalf but I'm not sure. If he's not Gandalf and some random dude then I don't care. The black elf guy actually seems like a decent character, but his storyline is boring and the stereotypical love interest stuff I could see coming from a mile away.
And Durin is an epic character in LOTR lore... who is apparently married to some black dwarf. So ridiculous. I wasn't even paying attention as to why Elrond went to visit the dwarfs other than to have dinner.

Galadriel, as far as I know, has no history of being a "warrior" so putting her into this position is just way off. She's more of a sorceress, and comes off as wise and cunning (in the original movies/books). Same as Elrond, new Galadriel is none of these. Old Galadriel is also a solid HBB 9/10, and new Galadriel is meh.
Neither have any appearance of even being the same character.

In on haters hating a good-great show
Visually superb, plot is a slow burn which is great for setting up a 3-5+ season show. Dwarven city plot is my fav so far

Hard earned indeed, Galadriel is thousands of years old and Tolkien described her as an Amazonian. The third age where most people see her is the tail end of the elves time in Middle-Earth where they’ve lost all their vigor. It really tells you how many ****tards don’t know ****, but will spout off like they do.
Visually superb, plot is a slow burn which is great for setting up a 3-5+ season show. Dwarven city plot is my fav so far

Old Galadriel is also a solid HBB 9/10, and new Galadriel is meh.
