I wouldn't do accounting unless you research your area. (Yes yes, Accounting Master Race™)

If you are from any of the rural states, you are pretty much going to work a dead-end entry-level career with low pay.

I know some dude who did comp sci, but he commutes 2 hrs to work since he lives in but fuk no where.

If doing accounting, you may want to do CPA just to differentiate yourself from the other accountants. If you are white, you should have little issue actually getting interviews at public accounting firms.

Then out of the 4 times (literally a billion applications), I interviewed, one said they were going to send me to Puerto Rico since I look like I speak Spanish and the other said they were going to send me to Iraq or Afghanistan (don't remember), since I would fit in over there.

One picked up for a phone interview and immediately hung up on me after I said hello, and the final one pretty much said told me to fuk off after I said that McDonald's is more stressful than office work. (Still true to this day).

****ing paper pushers, have never worked a job that involved not sitting on your ass all day.

Jokes on them, got an excellent job that's all remote.

Ok first of all, you don't need any robotics background to start a company. You just need to be rich or have a rich dad and to know some experts. Second of all, no BS degree is going to start at six figures fresh out unless you're a top student from a top school. You'll get a good well paying job with high opportunity advancement.

CS all the way. CS is also best paired with other stuff imo. Math, Econ, Premed, Finance, Business, it goes well with anything. And if you get the degree from a good school, even better. You will make 6 figures if you go down that path.

Even if you don't like CS, you should probably still do CS.

Too late to get on the CS train, its saturated AF.

Finance and business management will always be worth it as you can always and should be aiming for to be your own boss.

How old are you and what subjects you enjoyed and what came naturally to you in school? for more based advice.

I was a business marketing major and had a successful career. I don't know how it would be for new grads, though, since i'm a dinosaur.

Easy test to do OP is if you are interested in something, go to Indeed and lookup related jobs in your area. If barely anything, switch degrees unless you plan to move.

Well RIP, I was going to say engineering master race. Don't know why you think you can't do engineering. The subject matter is dense but none of it is terribly difficult. The proofs require high level math but the principles are all very logical.

Don't do business management, even the accounting professors make fun of them. It's an extremely soft degree where all the people are deluded srs. You don't even have to come to class, just read the chapter the day before the exam, and you will get an A.

They drink a lot of Kool aid and basically think they can do every job in the world and that they will be supervising the engineers and accountants of the world with their worthless degree.

Also only choose finance if you are near a finance hub. Otherwise, you will just be competing with accounting students for accounting jobs.

There is a joke at my uni that Finance majors are just drop out accountants who couldn't pass Intermediate Accounting (which has some truth to it).

Another joke is that they will end up working for Geico.

Seems like accounting is the only worthwhile business degree and there are a lot of women too. My class distribution was 60% women and 40% men. But I already was with my wife, so it didn't matter. I had random girls come up and talk to me in class asking "for help on homework" just because many of the guys are just obese or twigs.

You realize that college and trade school is a short period of your life and if you go into nursing or HR with a bunch of dumb broads you are stuck with them for the rest of your life. One day all those hot 22 year old chicks from med school will be fat bickering miserable nurses and a drain on your work day for the next 40 years. It is highly desirable to work in an all male field. Find your sloots outside of work.

Op you're on the right track with comp science. The field offers the least amount of work for the most pay. Healthcare (what I went into) is fine, but youll be working your ass off for those paychecks. Something people never tell you about healthcare is, it's not a white collar job. It's more like "grey". There's paper work but also a decent amount of grunt work too, even in upper level positions. Another benefit to not choosing healthcare is you don't have to stay in school for 100 years like I did. You could potentially get out making 80k at 24 Years old if you play your cards right.

And if you're wondering, yes, if I could fo it all over again, I'd choose comp sci. Healthcare is too "selfless"

With other jobs not related to comp sci, you have to basically work your way up to a supervisory or managerial role to make decent money. But in comp sci jobs you can push $100k in a mid level position.

Yeah I get recruiter emails and calls at least a few times a day being CS at a good school. It's a powerful major for sure, but my own personal interests don't lie completely with CS so I like to pair it with other stuff.

Ever considered dentistry OP? Hard to get accepted, and 4 more years after undergrad, but average starting salary in my state is $130-170k, average mid-career salary is about $250k, and specialists on average make $300k+. Dental school itself is tough, but vast majority of dentists work 4 days a week.

My bachelor's is in Comp Sci but it bored the chit out of me. Rn in my last year of dental school, this stuff is infinitely more enjoyable. If you like the hard sciences, working with your hands, operating on people, pharmacology, autonomy, want a work-life balance, hard to think of something better. I doubt I'd have ever gotten laid if I stuck with CS, met my first GF in organic chem

What job do you do now? I have all cpa exams passed but need to do other requirements to actually get licensed but i don't even like accounting lol. Kinda a backup plan and just to prove to myself that i could pass that miserable exam.

It helps but there's a lot of people who didn't come from wealthy families.

Being from a rich family increases your likely hood to become rich but there's a people like Steve jobs(Apple) or Jeff Bezos(Amazon) or Ray Kroc((McDonalds) or Sam Walton(Walmart) who never did. come from wealth These people had porr relationships with their fathers. Elon Musk never had a good relationship with his father.

True about doing the job you can handle, not expecting women in the workplace to make it pleasant. Extreme male fields require some other hook to stay halfway social. If you study CS, at least do a minor in business or something to handle social life.


I also stand by my original statement you need to follow what regional markets you can access. If you're not accepted to Harvard or a top 20 school, I doubt you'll easily access international competition. Probably you will stay limited to what jobs your school connects you to.

If you can do comp sci and actually learn the stuff in your class and not cheat, it’s basically a golden ticket to the middle class

I work as an accountant in budgeting, 100% remote in San Diego. I didn't even know these types of jobs existed. All I do is keep track of budgets in the most dumbed down explanation possible. The CFO has told me that my job is extremely niche and they have no idea what to pay me, so they don't want me to leave and I was getting a promotion every year, it was insane.

I never worked public, and in California, it's not required. All you need is Bachelor's degree to sit for exam. And 150 credits (mostly made up of specific accounting courses (so you would have to look up details online) and 2 years experience supervised under a CPA.

Are you from US? (I don't remember lol)

Do you do auditing, tax, bookkeeping, financial accounting, cost accounting?

I hated auditing class, tax, bookkeeping and tolerate financial accounting. The only thing I like is cost accounting and this random budget accounting I do for my current job.

So this is pretty ideal for me. Other than the **** location of San Diego California. I'm ready to head out once my wife gets more experience in her field.

Chemistry is one of the most difficult degrees to go for. Some schools offer a BA in lieu of a BS, so check that out. It's not nearly as good, but it will open the door to job experience. It is extremely common to retake classes due to the heavy coursework chemistry requires. I took a number of classes twice for a various reasons like sacrificing one for another, but in the end it's all about the degree.

Once the Bachelor's degree is done the fun starts. Grad school or making ~$60k/yr to start will definitely be worth the five year struggle.
