Can I carry pepper spray in Canada?
Yes, pepper spray is considered a prohibited weapon in Canada and therefore is illegal. If you are found in possession of pepper spray, you can be charged with a criminal offence. The penalties for weapon offences in Canada are very serious, including long-term imprisonment and a criminal record

Glad you're OK. In the future, never go to answer the door without a weapon in your hand. Forget that "allowed to" cuck ****.

That's awful OP. Glad to see you're alive and all things considered well.

I work out of town and the 110lb Great Pyrenees Mountain dog gives me piece of mind that my family has some protection while I'm away. The real shotgun on the terminator is a good idea as posted above. Also fk the law I guarantee you will get off with probation if you kill someone during a home invasion.

It's sad that probably if you had done anything to defend yourself you'd be in jail right now.

Those Canada laws are insane. I'd rather go to jail than not do what I had to do to defend myself from a threat

Never let your guard down. Chances are if you aren't involved in shady business your chances are low, but it can happen.

Years ago my uncle go tinvolved in some shady business and defaulted on some loans. He had never been to my house, or my grandmother's house. We had investigators and repo men coming by our homes. There was one occasion where it got ugly when some hood rat repo man saying he was going to come in my grandmother's house to look for things. So I wondered how he knew our addresses. Did one of those internet background checks on him and sure enough, he had my home and my grandmother's listed as places he was living. Anyways, my point is that anyone could put your address down as their residence and it will come back on a search site, sometimes even just a google search that they lived there. If they have people looking for them, you could end up getting caught in the mix.

Police don't do jack ****. Someone slashed my tires then many years ago, some guy flashed a weapon at my mom and stalked her.

Guy was living next door to her illegally.

Police said they couldn't do anything about mine since no witnesses. And they wouldn't do anything about Mom's issue since no one died. They told me if I really cared about my mom, I should go out there and escort her to the car, then if something bad happens, I can report it.

Like I ain't driving to mom's to escort her to drive to work before my work day. Fuk that.

There’s a knock on my front door which is a little abnormal , and I try and see out the side window if I can , but I thought wtf am I being so paranoid about , as this isn’t Portland .
I srs thought it was a neighbour and let my guard down.

Well I should have been paranoid,as someone rushed in the door as I was opening it with what I believe was a steel pipe or a hammer , and smoked me over the head with it .

At this point I’m in disbelief and a bit incoherent as I’m stumbling backwards .
The guys got a hoody on and a face mask , and I can only see his eyes . He’s swinging like a mad man at me , and I’m doing my best to deek his attempts at landing blows. Well I managed to get missed a few times , but then got hit in the face breaking my nose .

Now I’m stumbling and end up on my knees between my couch and coffee table .
As I’m trying to get up I yell obscenities at him . Up until this point not a word has been spoken by either of us , as a matter of fact he never spoke once .

Well the strangest thing happened. I’m thinking this is the end , but when he heard my voice , instead of engaging any further , he just stops and looks at me in the eyes for a split second , then makes a beeline for the door .
He could have taken anything at this point , but fled.

I’m legally blind in my right eye , and there’s blood pouring off my forehead into my left eye .
I didn’t even close the door behind him,and went to find my phone . I can’t see chit and walk to the kitchen sink to clear blood from my eyes , only to drop my phone into the left hand side of the sink which is full of water , as I had just done dishes , but had more to do yet.
So now the screen on my iPhone is not functioning properly, but I dry it and it recovers .
But this cost a few important minutes ,as when I phoned the police they brought the dog , but unfortunately couldn’t find the guy .
The police think he may also have had an accessory who drove , causing the dog to lose the sent .

Anyways , the police ask me if I have any drug involvement , or owed anyone money .
Of course none of the above, but it started to make sense , as this didn’t seem like a routine home invasion to rob the place, but a hit .
I’m laying in the hospital bed , and as I’m thinking about this situation, it’s obvious that when the perp heard my voice, that’s when he bolted as he realized he was at the wrong house .
I had most of the lights off ,and it was fairly dark in my living room , so he couldn’t make me out very well till I got to the coffee table .

My unemployed neighbour really likes his blow but can’t afford it , and I really believe he was the intended target .

Anyways lesson learned , never open your door if you don’t know for 100% certainty who it is .Normally this isn’t a thing around here , but this towns gone for chit since they started shipping the homeless from Vancouver and the lower mainland here

A standard door can easily be kicked in, so its not as simple as not opening doors if some thug really wants to get you. Thats why many houses have security door that can by time and make it difficult for any thug, especially a low level thug.
