That's awful. Best of luck. The economy sucks right now, and many tech firms are laying people off I keep reading. The down turn shouldn't last for ever though. A split government will hopefully improve the economy and get things moving in a positive direction once again.

What kind of employee do you not give any projects to? The kind of employee that isn't good enough for any projects.

Sorry to hear OP. Probably hard to land something if you don't have years of experience under your belt unless you're a self taught / motivated superstar that exceeds expectations. Just keep looking there's something out there that will fit you. Hopefully you learned something in the time you were with that company.
My bf just fired 3 people this past week but I think that was just because they've outgrown the employee / getting rid of the dead weight. They had people lined up already to replace them. The market is wild. He & his business partner are flying to Costa Rica next week for a week & half sponsored by Costa Rican gov as an incentive to bring business there with tax exemptions. Might not be just the ****** competing.. but it also hasn't worked out well with the ****** companies that they've tried to use before. We'll see what's different with the Costa Ricans.

Well capitalized tech companies are fine, and will continue to grow and dominate more and more industries.
What you all in this thread seem to be talking about is, SMALL cap tech, or startup tech companies that aren't well capitalized.
It's hilarious to me how all these stupid "Wall Street analysts" don't have the first clue about how tech companies operate - of course we use debt to finance our expansion / R&D and business operations....it's cheap money and there are tax advantages. Why on earth would you burn your cash reserves?
Anyway, yes there is always bloat in the small companies, but it's not impactful to the overall industry. Apple, Google, META, Amazon, Microsoft aren't going anywhere.

Do you have any technical skills OP? Although some of the big dogs have slowed hiring (slowed not stopped), many mid-sized tech companies can not hire skilled workers fast enough, which has created huge upward wage pressure on them. Essentially the companies are cucked.
I made a move recently and got a 50% increase in base salary + stock options + perks. A lot of my friends have made similar moves with similar results.

You had me at "Just got Laid"... But the rest of post title lost me in a choppy white water river of deep despair and heartache. Keep trying, it will all be worth it in the end.

Sucks OP. But you'll find another job eventually. Alot of tech brahs were pretty smug about WFH while i was walking i to covid rooms everyday. And alot of them still dont want to go into the office. After this tech crash reality's going to set in.

Damn OP sorry to hear that srs. We both got hired at around the same time. I'm at 5 months.
Either way, I would try to get hired by a huge corp.
My place can't keep people at all, but I guess not everyone is cut out for a 24/7 environment.
That being said, did you have anything that you could have added to your resume from this position?
Even if its just one project, I feel you could use that + back to the leetcode grind and get something better srs.
You never know whats around the corner. Could be something much better than getting laid off was bad.

It could be some small "start up consultancy" like those exist even tho no famous/prestigious incubator/fund would ever accept a consultancy with no product.
So I guess it was a small ****ty one and they are downsizing as even MBB/Big 4 are in a some what freeze.

Sure, IT/Comp Sci is not a gold mine, just like any business cost cutting / hiring freezes at a time of economic downturn is expectable.
But if Finance, Accountancy, Engineering have similar/worse numbers it is still decent.
Obviously you have fields like teaching and nursing where you are more recession proof but compared to other corporate etcc

Must be the industry the company you work for is in. In our IT department we have dozens of openings and cannot find people to fill them (hybrid 2 days work from home, 3 in office). Your mileage may vary I guess.
