I liked all of them but the layover is where it’s at for me. So many of my trips are 2-3 days that show was like watching myself travel. Wish that was more than 2 seasons but apparently he hated it since it was so exhausting.

Oh yeah layover was good as well. I travel a lot too, and I remember years ago I had a 24 hr layover in Amsterdam...Lmao I degenmaxxed so hard that night with pepsi and booze with a friend I was traveling with we missed our flight, and said fuk it, and just took the train...We were going to Paris anyway so wasn't a big deal.

This was pretty much me like Jude law in this scene lol.

Ha. Speaking of Amsterdam my first time I was there for 3 days and ended up inadvertently visiting a bunch of places he had in the show. Once I rewatched it after the trip I realized it. I end up hitting up a bunch of the places in his shows in each city I go usually without realizing it.

Weird as hell watching his show now with him dead.

I consider him a thoughtful and likable man. His show was really good. At some point during his relationship, a lot of the wounds that he managed to live with for years opened up in a way that he could not overcome. I’m sure there’s a lot that went on that we know little about.

Everyone here is saying such nice things. The reality is he was a piece of shyt, and a crackhead to boot. I liked his shows, but he was not a good person.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

What did he do aside from what you mentioned and paying off the person his girlfriend molested?

Something that I've never heard anybody mention (maybe cuz only the BLACKPILLED see the truth)...is that HIS HEIGHT was a major reason for his charm, wit, likeability, etc.

He musta been at least 6'3. If he hadn't been tall there would be no going on and on about him let alone this thread.

Just like the actor, Paul Walker, almost a comically bad actor but revered for what? his love of cars? Only thing he had was his extreme handsomeness which is absurdly rare in males....height looks thats all you need to even fail upward.

Somehow after about 9 months this is what finally snapped me out of my funk.

This is what it took for me as a decent looking guy in his mid 30s. It's probably a lot harder for a guy in his 50s like Bourdain to just find that again because although he was a well-known celebrity, it was probably still hard as fuk for him to actually connect with people and find someone who isn't just a fan. If I had to go through the same chit I did then at an older age, it probably would have been much tougher due to smaller support circle and being a single guy at that age is probably fuking a bit lonely to begin with.
Both of your in-depth posts here in this thread are really insightful and self-aware. Great analysis.
And yeah, I have no doubt she smirked when she heard the news.

Weird to see folks writing here that he was 'elitist'. He's a classic tortured soul, full of inner rage and his own demons.

He 'lucked out', a line cook with a way of telling stories that people found appealing. And he knew he was lucky, with deep feelings that he didn't deserve his luck and fortune, etc.

Oh, and a chef chitting on TV chefs is fairly normal, folks. Across the industry. Because kitchens involve a lot of sacrifice, and cooking in front of a camera for much more money? Nope.

I don't actually think he was very political, but you could tell when his show moved to CNN that they pushed him to say more things that fit the CNN agenda.

Like every once in a while he would say something about eating ass, or obviously something supportive to gays that he never in a million years would have said on previous channels. That was kind of the beginning of the end for him, because you could tell that he was more unhappy because he took the money and didn't have the autonomy that he had previously and was being asked to say a bunch of chit he didn't agree with.

Lol, I had one of these earlier this year as well. Had about 14 hours in Sao Paulo because I was flying in from another Brazilian city and the next day flying to Europe. Took a taxi from the airport to a party hostel that I've stayed at previously, and ended up checking in and going straight to the bar. There were a bunch of travelers and younger locals there, so I just started pounding drinks and eventually started chatting with some people. Met a local guy who is an Engineer and spoke fluent English, and eventually I asked if he knew where to get some Pepsi and he said yes. We hopped in this guy's car, and drove to the Favela, and ended up picking up something like 12 vials of good Pepsi for something like $20 US. (For some reason Pepsi is extremely cheap in Brazil, especially if you're a local).

After buying the Pepsi, we went back to the hostel and there were a group of people going out to a group of bars/clubs that are nearby. Ended up going to these bars and kept drinking heavily with the people. Making out with all types of Brazilian girls, was just a wild night that came when I had earlier considered just getting a hotel and going to sleep myself. After the bars/clubs, ended up going to the guy's apartment with a few girls, and ended up doing more Pepsi and eventually the guys gave me a ride back to the hostel at like 6AM.

I slept for like 2 hours, and woke up the next morning and went to the airport. I had to take a Covid test at the airport because it was required for entry into Europe from Brazil at the time, so I paid something like $40 and somehow navigated the Clinic where nobody spoke English at the airport. The finally called my name, and I was called into the little room for a nose swab. He shoved swab into my right nostril, and it came out all covered in caked white crusty chit from the night before. We both kinda looked at each other and I smiled and shrugged my shoulders, and started walking away.

The test came back negative, I hopped on a plane to Europe, and I honestly don't even remember a single second of that plane trip as I was sleeping the entire time.

OP coming in with the heat because he's right.

The dude was a talented writer but a POS being, along with being a drug addict.

I think he made comments about how happy Europe was getting "brown" or something. He was one of "those" people.

Yeah, he was a narcissistic, arrogant arsehole, which many chefs are, I know. He just shyt talked so many people for no reason, Fiery, Rachel Ray, Paula Deen just b/c they made simpler dishes that appealed to more people than some Cambodian fish guts dish. Don't miss him at all.
