So I pay attention to the differences in recordings, masterings too. But we're in an era where say, I even got the bluetooth module for my iems and the sound quality is way worse than corded, but I use those at the gym since it's more practical with box jumps.
It's give and take.
Someday, my final build will have a 'hutte' for me, and it'll be designed with my acoustic preferences in mind.

Yes every step down the chain matters with the recording being most then mastering second and each step after compounds it that much more...
There's dsd that sounds worse than mp3. A lot of variables.
