I'm not a sushi connoisseur, the best spot I've been to is Nobu and I'm not sure if that's considered "authentic" or not, but I really liked it

How do I explain this…

Sushi is not like pizza or a burger where even if it’s bad, it’s still good. For m, it’s of those things that once you start going up in quality you can’t really go back down. You can never go back to your old place once you find something better, it just won’t taste the same anymore. That’s kinda what’s fun about trying new foods and restaurants.

You would like what you call “authentic” sushi MUCH better than the all you can eat stuff, if you go to the right places. I’ve yet to have actual good sushi outside of New York or Los Angeles (never been to Japan). I suspect that the “top sushi spot” in a place in like a Kansas City or mid size size city just can’t really do justice to what actual good sushi is. So your perception of “authentic” or “high quality” just isn’t the reality.

sushi is some overpriced hipster chit, much better seafood dishes out there

that being said, give me some clean looking sushi without all the sauces n chit on top, at least that's some decent macros with just rice and fish and it tastes like actual fish

My 20 year old cousin who lives off firehouse subs and his college meal plan could do the same shyt. What's so hard about cutting a piece of fish and sticking it on a piece of rice that you need 40 years of experience

I've never been a fan of 'fine' dining or the whole authentic sushi thing... Even though I've done a good bit of it with my girlfriend (I haven't paid for most of it).

To be perfectly honest my favorite Asian dining experience is an all you can eat buffet at a local Chinese spot that also has a guy that does sushi and another guy that does hibachi. But nothing fancy. Talking a $12 meal. (srs). I've been to some fairly high end sushi places and every single time I leave I can't help but compare it to my local $12 spot. TBH they can't compete.

As far as other meals I've had better home cooked meals then most 'high end' restaurants can provide. Cajun / from the Louisiana coast so perhaps my pallet has been a bit spoiled/accustomed to truly amazing food.

If someone wants to talk about a restaurant has good food my first question is do you get up and take a crap and/or vomit so you can continue eating it? Or are you done when you are full? If its not so good you go make room to eat more (gross I know) then return to eating. The food aint that good.

I grew up fishing on the gulf coast so maybe its not so impressive to me. But what exactly makes it so much better? Where I'm from catching a fish then preparing it the same day to eat is pretty normal. I really don't see what the chefs in Japan can do different unless they just have a different seasoning/sauce combination that can't be acquired here.

But otherwise fresh fish is fresh fish. And you can only cut it so many ways.

I'm a greedy eater who prefers comfort foods in large quantities as opposed to having a refined palate and trying to savor each morsel. Also I'm not impressed at all by small portions and a whole production during the 'fine dining' experience.

I'll take Southern comfort or Cajun food any day of the week.

what's the difference srs. sushi buffet you can order your shyt off an ipad and michelin star restaurant they talk to you about how they caught the tiger fish dong off the coast of japan and how the average tiger fish only has a 5g dong and how it's a delicacy in hokkaido. i rather get the tiger fish dong roll (6 pc) off the ipad than spend 5 minutes listening to the guy tell the history of tiger fish. other than that it's the same thing
