They didn't. Many Gladiator battles were theatrical with no casualties, and many were often vs animals. In fact, I'd posit to you that few, if any, gladiators actually died in the colosseum. A lot of what we are told about Romans came later to illustrate a kind of brutality that likely didn't exist. They were more likely the ancient version of the WWE.

Think about how stupid it is to take highly trained warriors and then have one die. Seems dumb right? Especially if they are both very famous and draw crowds. They'd choreograph their chit. It was a show.

I mean we’re not that far off right now, when you watch MMA we all kind of know that all of these people retire with massive migraines for the rest of their life, they get dumber with each punch they take, they all have arthritis, every retired prizefighter is on painkillers, knees completely shot, hands hardly moving, but we all watch,

how about professional wrestlers, I remember buff Bagwell broke his neck in the ring. The show just went on to the next match, every time Hulk hogan would drop a leg drop he was moving closer to a lifetime of pain, but none of us care.

Are you seriously saying that nobody today would watch a few captured Isis members fight each other to death?

If people who beheaded a couple of western journalists were captured, you really think people today wouldn’t watch them kill each other?

We still do. We watch violent movies and play violent games just to release that urge.

Apes are inherently violent. Some societies have learned to suppress and control such emotions by introducing education and a law system. There is a reason why corrupt 3rd world chitholes and people coming from them are like animals still.

Gorillas have genetically strong force so it snapping a tigers neck won't be much of an issue.

Sharks have a huge bite-force and are quite thick for a croc to inflict much damage.

Eagles are aggressive and brutal and has flight advantage, don't know here.

A gorilla isn't doing **** to a tiger. Even if it could snap it's neck it's never getting that opportunity

Wish more people realized that gorillas aren't the all powerful things most people think they are. You'd be amazed at how many people would seriously pick a gorilla in a gorilla vs grizzly bear fight.

Was going to say posts about which animal would beat which animal in a fight indicates there's still a natural curiosity about these things.

Romans, being a practical set of lads, actually shipped them into arenas.


Early UFC was very brutal, if they allowed biting & did away with the ref at that time it would have been about as brutal as it can get, without the addition of weapons.

They weren't killing each other most of the time smoothbrain, they did their WWE tier crap with maybe a cut or two and that was it. Gladiators were trained pros - meaning expensive - not some village rapists given a helm and a pointy piece of metal so they can go and maybe not die in 5 seconds flat.

Fights to the death did happen, but only when the organizer was wealthy and willing to compensate the owner for the death of said trained gladiators or when they shoved some criminals into the arena.
