Bro, don't play with the water since you don't know whether bath water, toilet water or sink water. Nasty all around.
Clear the room best you can. Line your chit along the opposite walls and cover with plastic tarps. Chances are management will repair it which will involve cutting out ceiling, running new plumbing, laying in new drywall, paint. Tell them to comp month's rent or let you stay in another unit until work is done.

Is your AC unit up there?....Condensate pan overflow?
Burst pipe/pinhole leak?
Heavy rains as of late?
AT this point there is probably water damage and its have to be done professionally. It will take several days and you might have to temp move out...good luck.
If no water damage, they will remove surficial damage, re spakle, sand and paint. May also take several days, so again pepper that angus for a hotel unless you like the smell of paint.

4k a month isn't enough for your landlord to be able to pay the mortgage, buy a boat and repair the apt. Consider giving him a 15% tip next month to get it fixed

$4k and in Jersey? I hope you fukkin die and don't breed.
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.

the Hispanic tradie that came by to look at seemed very concerned (srs), took a photo and immediately started calling someone from management.
how much do you think it would cost to fix this for my landlord?
its all over my ceiling.

Update for everyone:
Misc tradie crew is here and fixing the ceiling. Looks like they are just going to paint over the damage (fing lol).
What a based landlord. Next tenant will have no idea his entire ceiling is water damaged.
