I take mine to a drive through one by me that has been there forever. It takes 20 min. at most. They do get annoying trying to get me to do 100 things besides that though but they aren't too pushy about it.

But holy chit has it gotten expensive. It was $85.

I'm gonna start doing it myself now I think if that's how much it is now. I swear it was $60 last time and I used to get it changed for like 40-50.

Take it to a luxury car dealer. Its a much better deal. You'll pay the same price but you get more out of it.

going through a drive thru oil change place makes me feel like a beta. like I sit there and sip a coffee while hard working men do something I should do

so i get my wife to drop it off at the dealership for me and spend even more money srs

It doesn't matter if you drove 500 miles or 10,000 miles in that 3 months, that oil is the viscosity of water by that time

The oil is nothing, any simpleton with an $80 jack, $29 oil collecting pan, a ratchet and the common sense to lower the car so the last of the waste oil drains properly can do it.

The problem is usually the filter, last 2 oil changes I did I could not get that fukking filter off to save my life.

That coffee is chit.

I'll add that I love having waste oil around. I pour it on my campfire wood and let it sink in, nice hot smokey burn. Got a nice smell, perfectly legal and the shop is just burning it in a furnace anyway.

just switched to doing my own oil changes this year.

last few times i went to quick change places, they were just using the suction pump through the dip stick. I was like WTF am i paying them for that, I could just do it. But then decided to do it through drain plug for reasons below.

Plus I dont know what quality filters they are using, I use OEM.

Plus I wanted to change out the drain plug so it gets a new o-ring, the shops arent changing it out anymore they going through the top.

Plus I wanted to get all oil out from the bottom, the dipstick pumps leave some in, confirmed on youtube video.

Cheaper even with oem parts and top brand oil.

I know its actually done, and done right.


After I did it and spilled zero oil, I was like WTF why havent i just done it all along was so simple.

Just drive the car up onto some ramps, you can make them with $20 worth of wood

When I was 17 I thought I was tough chit and decided to change my own on my Honda.

Jacked, drained, changed filter, added oil, all fast af. Was standing there mirin myself.

Start car and fukin oil light doesn’t go out, get out of car and oil spraying everywhere haha!!

Fukin FRAM filter did me in big time, old o ring stuck to the block and double gasketed that bitch.

My parents were pissed as chit since I made their nice garage floor messy af. Chucked my filter down the street in a fit of rage and then cried (srs)..

Bad thing is, that day was better than the even the very best day now.

Went to a 10 min oil place. Took over an hour. They hire these punk druggy high school kids that show no haste. Is still rather someone else do it than myself(I can) but damn, take some pride in your work.

Junkboxcells bragging about changing their own oil lol some people have nice new cars under warranty and want to have a legitimate full maintenance record. Changing your own oil isn't special or difficult I used to do it too when I drove beaters and hobby cars.

The only advice I can give people that go to those places is to make sure they go early in the morning when the crew isn't rushed with a line of cars and they're fresh-faced and ready to work. If you're going to those places at 4pm on a friday (and they close at 5pm), something is going to get phucked up, you can almost guarantee it. They're rushing because there's most likely a line of cars waiting, they're tired because they've been in that hotbox of a oil station all day and they want to get the hell out of there because their shift is almost over. Recipie. For. Disaster.

You can take used oil to any place that does oil change and they will dispose of it for you for free. I've always just taken it to Walmart that has a car service center, not places like Jiffy Lube. But it is required by law that they take your waste oil for free. Which means you already paid for it by tax.

Coolant, flush it down your toilet. Not down the sink or gutter.

I don't really trust other mechanics that work simple sht like this.

Yeah oil changes are getting needlessly expensive, so I've done my own oil changes the last year or so. Yeah the cheapest oil change I've paid someone else to do it was about $45, but I had to drop it off and let them drain, fill, replace filter at their leisure, I guess. Too much gay hassle.

Just changed my own oil last weekend. $28 for the oil + filter since the auto parts store was having a special. It took me maybe an hour to buy everything, do the oil change then take the waste oil back to have it dumped. Mechanics have the luxury of car lifts so it should take them maybe 5-7 minutes total, wtf.
