Too many variables, if trains still need human drivers then trucks will need human drivers for years to come
I hope so man, I'm not at all technically literate so it's more of a gut feeling than a reasoned position. I'm hoping for the best and preparing, financially,for the worst. Right now, though, LTL and food service is where it's at for truck drivers and I feel very fortunate to be in the position I'm in.

Even if we do eventually get to the point of self driving long haul trucks, there will still be a person in the cabin.

Truck breaks down or has flat in the middle of Nebraska and just sits there unattended for hours and hours full of cargo just lol no way

Louisiana, it’s the easiest job I’ve ever had, pay starts at $42 an hour. During hurricane season on emergency generator fills you can make up to $1500 on a 4 hour 4 stop drop.

You need a class A with tanker and hazmat endorsements.

Did it for 2 years. Never ending road trip. Dealing with lowlifes. Not just other truck drivers but dock workers, security gate people, some of them are just absolute trash people. Living in a truck. Feel trapped. If you have a life outside of trucking forget it. Say you get hometime you can bet routing you to your home most of the time will mean losing good trips.

It depends really where you live, or what company you work for. Driving trucks in the winter no thanks, but if you live outside the salt states it could be a good move. Or until you find something better.

I highly doubt AI is going to be taking over trucking in our lifetimes.

At any rate - in some regards it seems like it wouldn't be that bad, but in some regards it does seem like it would suck. Ultimately, I don't think I'd want to do it, but it's probably a solid career for the right people.

I see alot of people saying AI will take over the trucking industry and kick drivers out. I see AI entering the industry but there's no way AI can figure out how to drive in a trucking yard in the next 50 years. Have any of you ever been to warehouses? it's literally chaos at times no way AI could figure this **** out need a brain

I actually work on a trucking dock. The. Implant I work for just laid us off but it’s damn good money. This place just drives you 8 hours and you are home every night. Dock workers make 20 an hour and everything after 8 is overtime with sat overtime and Sunday is double time. The drivers probably pull 13-2000 a week and are gone every night. They just laid a lot of us off though but this is the first time in 8 years I’ve been laid off. I’d hate to have to get a new job but most truckers get paid even more than that. I love the dock job. The pay is good and you can drive into the truck and Che k your phone or whatever. Get a workout in stacking s pallet here and there abd just cruise around. The only thing that sucks is winters are brutal. I have to eat 5000 calories just to keep warm. Don’t know how the Russian and Ukrainian soldiers are in this shot 24/7. 8 hours will make you suicidal

Friend of mine claims that he was making 10k a well driving a semi a couple of years ago (owner operator) that's 10k take home after taxes and expenses??
Possible is yes why the fuk ain't we all driving trucks?
That's half a mill take home a year

If not true what is the realistic salary??

You are right about the trash people but I think that’s just America. These are good jobs out here in warehouses and on trucking docks but somehow the United States has become a country full of low lives and thugs. Like the average male I meet has probably a 50 iq and does drugs. All jobs are sheet because if this. Construction and electrician jobs are filled with druggies and *******ss. Don’t see how there aren’t murders out there everyday. I thought about becoming a cop just so I could be around at least half decent people. Don’t know what happened to this world

These people could all drop trailers at one time and set off dozens of giant truck bombs across the country at once and the chaos that followed would probably end the nation. None of these folks even speak English and will straight cuss you out. I’m Eastern European and my dna says Russian but these dudes are huge. Like way huge.
