Tesla and GM I think already do this for simple luxuries such as heated seats and mirrors.

But the government needs to just pick one already. Not have a tax on gas + tax on distance traveled + tolls to use roads.
If you drive a hybrid do you have to pay both? Gas tax and usage/distance tax?
I really despise the toll roads we have in TX now. I understand when there is an area that could be served by a road and a private company decides to purchase property and put a road in. I think it is BS for the state highway department to "partner" with a toll collecting company instead of just building the roads that we need and funding it via the normal government bond system.
I've wondered for some time how this may be effecting accidents involving large trucks that are on limiters.

this is an atrocity
software subscriptions come with support and maintenance
hardware subscriptions are just renting
this is illegal af
selling someone a car then withholding functionality is not legal

Hackers will develop ways around this. Although I dont have much faith in Zoomer hackers, between fuking up music so bad and not knowing what gender to be. Despite growing up on computers i doubt they have the skill to usefully hack anything.

Gas is still alive and well. LOL at those switching to EV to "save da planet", better solution is to switch to a hybrid. Use EV in cities to "do your part" but if they want to limit it then switch to gas. They'll find a way to limit that too.

I posted about it this morning. There is no growth in modern Western economies... the pie isn't growing bigger, there are no new frontiers to exploit. So the winning strat for the 1% today is to corner their own little niche of the market, then milk it with rentier traps.
The textbook example of a rent trap is a guy who owns a river. Dudes travel down it every day for free, then one day he just puts a gate in their way and start charging a toll to get through. He doesn't offer anything extra in return for the toll, he just does it to milk it and fuk with them.
Once you frame it that way, so much about the clown economy makes sense. College tuition, heated seat subscriptions, battle passes, prescription drugs... they're all making you pay more for the same product, or even for chit you used to get for free, and adding zero value to it. And you can't compete with it the guys doing this, cause they are billion-dollar multinationals backed up by the US govt.
