Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones srs no other actor could have pulled it off like he has. It's a very unique role if you think about it. Not too serious, not too comedic, but still charming, witty, sophisticated and a bit goofy.

same reason loraine bracco got the shrink role. she apparently killed it in auditions as they were gonna cast her as carmella, but she didnt want to be a "mobsters wife" again, and so they carved out that role for her.
I actually think theres an alternate universe where liotta never does goodfellas and gets cast in the sopranos as tony. the whole role takes on a different angle (as liotta is more handsome, not fat). would be super interesting and honestly just as good in my opinion.

sort of an old choice, but george c scott basically became more of Patton than Patton himself.

After exhaustive auditions, Tarantino was going to move on to another project because he was unwilling to settle for an actor who didn't check all the boxes...Then Christoph waltzed in.

Joe Pesci in Casino (literally was the spitting image of Tony Spilatro and did an incredibly good acting performance).
Don Johnson as Big Daddy in Django, and David Simms in Tin Cup. Both roles nailed to perfection that I can’t imagine anybody else playing.
David Duchovny as Hank Moody. Quite possibly the greatest tv character in history.
