Who and for which role was the best cast actor ever?

Title - doesn't even have to be big roles.

Brad Pitt killed it in Snatch

Another possibility is Al Pacino in The Godfather trilogy, or even scarface.

marlon brando was also perfect in the godfather.

Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Rome. Wouldn't change a single actor in any of those.
I think long-running TV shows distort though. After a few episodes, you just can't imagine anyone else playing the role - because they ARE the role.

Christoph Waltz was literally the only actor in the world that could have played Hans Landa.

After exhaustive auditions, Tarantino was going to move on to another project because he was unwilling to settle for an actor who didn't check all the boxes...Then Christoph waltzed in.

that dude was so great ...its hard to separate that role from him in real life. in fact, i would be disappointed if he didn't act like that in person.

Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner

Kurt Russell in Hateful Eight
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

ray liotta almost got the role as tony but david chase didnt want people to associate it too much with Goodfellas (i.e. as it was hard to seperate him from that role).

same reason loraine bracco got the shrink role. she apparently killed it in auditions as they were gonna cast her as carmella, but she didnt want to be a "mobsters wife" again, and so they carved out that role for her.

I actually think theres an alternate universe where liotta never does goodfellas and gets cast in the sopranos as tony. the whole role takes on a different angle (as liotta is more handsome, not fat). would be super interesting and honestly just as good in my opinion.

Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday set the gold standard for the role.
"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

Robert Kurtzman had the original idea in 1991 and hired QT to write the script and Kurtzman made a teaser trailer with Pilato...
