They both made dumb arguments that were besides the actual point.
It was dumb of the republican guy to categorically say "more guns = safer society." That's just not true.
It is dumb of Jon Stewart to try and pretend that anyone can just walk into any gun store in the US and just grab a gun and ammo of the shelf and walk out. It's a total mischaracterization of what it really takes to purchase a gun.
They both just kind of went off on "yeah but then..." tangents that weren't really related to gun laws
Jon also tried to throw "bullet stamping technology" in there like that is a real thing and the Republicans are blocking it from being implemented. Bullet stamping is frankly not possible so it's not worth discussing.
All the Republican guy had to say was " if you believe that all these gun laws, registrations, and restrictions are so successful at DECREASING gun violence (since Jon said that's all he cares about), than how come the cities with the strongest gun laws also have the most gun violence. Because they don't work at stopping gun crime.

Sad to see John Steward stoop to Sacha Cohen Baron levels:
1. Find the dumbest person you can find with absolute extreme views
2. Set them up as "this is what an everyday, ordinary republican believes"
3. Proceed to "destroy them"
I actually basically agree with Jon Stewart here. But am disappointed in him for doing this. And you should be embarrassed for falling for it, OP.

Gun rights are the hill to die on and many of us are not going to budge. Hell, even blue NM just backed down on a bunch of proposed gun laws because they realized how unpopular they were.
Best option is maybe you can live a super blue state where your right to self defense is neutered. Live how you want and don't concern yourself with us in other states.

Fact is I've lived in areas my entire life with majority gun ownership. Gun violence is not a problem. It's only an issue in cities, where guns just amplify an issue that the left doesnt give a rats ass about.
Sorry libs, you arent getting them. This is a no budge issue

That's popular in the media to fool people.
It's where you say the end result of something is the cause, but it's not.
50k gun deaths might be awesome numbers because if guns were impossible for average people to get, the criminal subculture would be empowered to murder more people.
So, his end result statistic is not indicative of the first cause of guns existing.

Another person who thinks they know the real world because they roughed it for a few years in NYC. Not in any real serious neighborhoods of course.
Why doesn’t he fuk off to California or NY and enjoy the laws he promotes? Why does he need to bother me in the south?

What is amusing is how Republicans claim to despise Marx and yet are becoming remarkably Marxist. I think democratic socialism is winning the argument on all sides. Slowly, but surely, we will converge to it.

If Democrats cared so much about gun violence then why do Democrat cities have so much of it?

This guy is out of his league, but Jon's arguments aren't always sound either.
For instance, in his discussion about domestic violence, he applies the "more guns is better" mantra. But that applies to having more people armed that can stop a baddie. If you have 500 guns in one house it doesn't make it 500% more safe. That is childish arguing.
Also, I'd be more in favor of registration if they didn't keep LEAKING THE GODD@MN LISTS! It isn't safe to advertise a house with guns like there is a fire sale for criminals. Plus, the reverse of that map is an breadcrumb trail to easy-to-rob, undefended houses.
