You have to be about 17 and high on zoomies, acid or just a $hitload of weed, to really enjoy Pink Floyd.
Alone in the bedroom of your parents house, with no internet and no cell phone... Surrounded by Hustler magazines with many pages stuck together, and dirty jizz rags all over the place.
Only then will you truly understand, young grasshopper.

I haven’t watched/listened to my favorite Pink Floyd recording in a while (Live at Pompeii). Thanks for reminding me. I think I’ll do that now.

Yeah OP is a flaggot.
Dark side of the moon was super ahead of its time and still holds up today. A sonic masterpiece.
Animals, wish you were here, the wall, all pretty good too. The wall in particular is probably the best executed concept album ever done, even if not their best musically.
Their stuff pre dark side and post wall not very good. But still good enough for Andrew Lloyd Weber to rip them off - the most iconic broadway riff of all time is a straight rip off of One of Pink Floyd’s b tracks.
Also, Pink Floyd is probably the “coolest” rock band of all time. Have sold albums on par with Led Zeppelin, yet are very understated, never did the over the top sex drugs and rock n roll party boys thing. Just kind of were these cool dudes doing their own thing. Ever subrurban kid who is “cool” also has a mandatory Pink Floyd phase.

How so uncultured misc? I love progression music like Yes, Genesis, Dream Theater so Floyd isn't really my style (nor The Beatles) but I recognise their musical competence.

You listen to their albums, not single songs.
And did you call Dark Side of the Moon trash? Castrate yourself.

There aren't very many bands left that release an album that carries an overarching theme front to back, right now the goal is purely to make disposable singles.

their hits are OK but they only have like 5 of them. they released 100 albums and only have 5 listenable songs.
literally everything between "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" and "Dark Side of the Moon" is pure garbage, the latter album also being pure druggy retardation.
why were they popular?

whenever I'm confused about how some untalented person in show biz "makes it", I just check the early life section on wikipedia.

Hard disagree op. Like others have mentioned, Dark Side of the Moon, Animals and the Wall were all pretty ahead of their time and defined psychedelic rock for decades.

Nah, op, you just don't know music. I'm not a druggie and have never touched a drug, but Pink Floyd has some great stuff. You sound like you eat well done burgers with only ketchup.

Comfortably numb alone makes Pink Floyd a great band. 2 of the best guitar solos recorded from that era. A few Pink Floyd tracks got me through middle school and high school and I’ll never say Pink Floyd didn’t help me in some way.
But Overall, yes for sure one of the most overrated and overly popularized bands in human culture, pop culture, etc. Pink Floyd or The Beatles, maybe. Both were great live performers, Pink Floyd / David Gilmore concerts are/were fantastic. I agree that both bands only have like 10 listenable songs, rest of discography is kind of psychedelic nonsense. I’m a fan of those songs, but they only makes sense when you listen to the full album (high as a kite, of course).
On any given day I’d rather listen to some Blue Oyster Cult or Deep Purple or Black Sabbath if we’re talking about older bands that still hold up, catchy cool driving tunes. Pink Floyd is what you listen to when you’re in a specific mindset and feeling strange.

even if you dont do drugs can still enjoy them, the studio recordings are done great you need some good speakers with good imaging and it comes out amazing. If youre listening to it on apple airpods or some bluetooth speaker i can see why you think it sucks and sounds boring, its mixed for people with high end stereos.
