For someone that hasn't announced he's running, and not actively campaigning or holding rallies, and the fact that we're still over a year off from election day, i'd say DeSantis is polling just fine. He's right where he needs to be. Remember, it was about this time 2015 when Jeb! and Rick Perry were the front runners and trump was floundering in the teen percentages and everything flipped on its head once the official campaign season started.

At this point its best to take what you can get. If Desantis wins the presidency but turns out to be some wishy-washy establishment RINO appeaser its still better than trump getting the nomination then losing.

Maybe I have a bias in favor of Trump, but you know what? I appreciate what he did for our country. He was the best leader of my lifetime by far and basically the only politician other than fringe candidates like Ron Paul who have ever stood up to the deep state.

Was Trump perfect? Of course not. I’ll criticize him on vaccines and bad hires, but compared to the clown world puppets who came before and after him he’s a legendary statesman who unequivocally made life better for all Americans. I also believe Trump tried to play politics his first term. Some of it was inexperience, the 2020 antics were trying to win the election when the fabric of society was collapsing because of a flu and the population was falling into mass hysteria. We’ve broken out of that to a degree.

The GOP’s problem in the suburbs is abortion. Full stop. Florida just passed a 6 week ban and DeSantis will sign the bill. That’s terrible political instincts. Notice Trump doesn’t even mention Roe, he sticks to anti-war, America First messaging.

I see in my personal relationships that Trump is more popular today than he was on, say, January 6th. People are reflecting on the disaster that is Joe Biden and saying it wasn’t worth it. That’s why I feel 2024 will be not only a referendum on Biden, but the ballot will essentially be “why did a better job as President?”

The clear answer is Trump.

Worth noting that despite everything he still leads Biden in the RCP polling average, recently getting 7 points ahead.I just really think DeSantis will do more damage to his political career by running than it’s worth and may hurt the party if he and Trump engage in a slug fest. He’s better off waiting until 2028. He can do a good job as Governor and maybe secure a cabinet position. Trump will be the kingmaker at the end of his term and can pass the movement along.

This is simply not correct. The problem in the suburbs is Trump. Trump and the GOP underperformed in the suburbs in 2016, performed worse in the suburbs in 2018, and performed even worse than that in the suburbs in 2020. This was all before the Roe v Wade overturn. And how can you say that Trump doesn't mention Roe? He literally campaigned on promising to appoint Supreme Court justices who would over to run Roe. It's actually one of the reasons I voted for him. Promise made and kept right there.
