There is some truth to this. I have a family friend that works in a nursing home and she tells me the richer and higher class the family is, the kids don't come around much. Strange.

staying in touch somehow probably stresses you out less as long as you can keep some order for everything. imagine them separating and going buckwild to stress you out more

Some wealthy families are very narcissistic, so the kids eventually finally break free and aren’t looking to increase the time spent with parents. And narcissists tend to get pretty bad with age.

Or the kids are spread all over the place with work responsibilities, so they literally can’t visit more often. And aren’t relying on an inheritance.

i feel ya op 100%.

i was a kid with ADHD, and my parents thought i was literally the devil because of it.

i was starved (my growth was stunted, srs), isolated, while my brother was treated like a king.

my parents actually made sure my brother and I never got close, srs.

now they are old, and i'm the only one around to take care of them. its hard to deal with

My mother has a torn ligament in one of her knees and she's been overweight all my life. This weekend I installed shower grab bars, shower chairs, and new shower heads with a secondary shower handle in both bathrooms so they can shower sitting down. My mother uses a walker while my father needs oxygen around the clock to breathe because 45% of his lungs are dead and it will get worse over time until he can't breathe and dies.

I have mixed feelings because my childhood wasn't the best and to be brutally honest, my father was and still is an ahole even when he's rotting away. He is former military and refuses to go to the VA to get assistance from the government because he says, "I don't need it, other people need it more than I do." Like I said, he's an ignorant ahole.

Now, I am cleaning their bathrooms and the rest of their apartment every 2 weeks. My wife helps me with this to get it over with quickly. My sister takes my mother to get groceries and my nephew helps from time to time with heavy things.

TL;DR
parents are old af and OP is helping them but OP has mixed feelings because childhood sucked.
When they're actually gone you won't feel anything but regret at not doing better. Not being a better person, son, and spending time with them.
