-Eliminate sodium benzoate from your diet
-meditate
-Take massive action towards your goals
-exercise

At the core of anxiety is the act of worrying about the future (depression is dwelling on the past). Iโ€™ve found by taking massive action, meditation, basically doing anything that forces you to be in the present helps bring you out of any anxious thoughts loops.

I tend to clean the house, focus on current tasks on hand, take massive action toward anything at all that will net me a positive outcome, read, ride my bike, take a walk, anything that will bring me into the present.

What doesn't have SB? It looks like everything has it, so would be easier to find what doesn't have it.

How do you meditate exactly? Like if it works for you, it should work for me.

My method involves either laying in bed or sitting and focusing on breathing for like 10 minutes? Should I change my technique? Should I go longer? All I mostly do is just focus on breathing and nothing else, but I haven't done that in a while, so I could pick that up again.

For that action stuff, even while I work remotely, I clean the dishes, cook dinner everyday, scoop the cat poop, and go on my hands and knees to vacuum the carpets since those are a pain in the ass, but these are daily things, so it doesn't feel any special. Like after I passed the CPA exam, I felt completely lost and had no idea what to do with my free time because I legit spent a full year+ just studying on my free time all day. No TV, no videogames, limited time hanging out with wife, and afterwards I feel depressed I guess, but it went away after a bit.

Thanks misc, all you ****** give good advice.

Granted, I am a supplement junkie, but for mood/anxiety:

MACA
GABA
ASHWAGANDHA
PRIMROSE OIL
RHODIOLA ROOT

There is also something else OTC that I only take one day a week at night and the next morning and afternoon always in the best mood but then have to take a nap by around 4pm. Some of you i'm sure already know this OTC supplement but I don't want to post it because I'm sure i'll get roasted as there are people who abuse it by taking it too often.

Your sleep would be better if you didn't eat at night.
Sleep is for recovery and I want my body doing as much work recovering during sleep that it can; less energy spent on digesting food.
I personally know that eating 4hr or further away from bed gives me best sleep.

Do you got a smart watch? If you have something like Garmin get the Connect app so you can see when your heartrate is spiking during the day. Figure out when/why your anxiety is triggered and go from there...

WTF how did you kill your GPU? The worst I've done in the past is use a vacuum cleaner 3x on my dusty old tower, but that never killed it fortunately, then I learned you ain't supposed to do that.

CPU. I used old thermal paste and when I was mounting the heatsink it ripped it out of the socket.

Chit was basically glue. Bent the pins back where they should be. Would almost boot, but got hung up on install.

X2 for nature, Forest, mountains, water etc

And if that doesnโ€™t work theres a thing called โ€œfloat tankโ€ where you sensory deprive your brain and CNS for 1 hour floating in salt water. That **** works spectacularly for me when going through massive stress (itโ€™s like a switch off).

Bunch of research starting to come on this for anxiety depression insomnia etc

On mobile and dont feel like quoting. Honestly bro what works for me is just pushing thru it. Act like its not even there, dont acknowledge it. It might take some time and youll be very uncomfortable emotionally. But eventually your brain will stop obsessing over it and move on to something else. The fear of negative emotions is alot worse than actually feeling it. Youll survive and come out better on the other side

Manning the fuk up worked in the past, but this stuff now is physically hurting my stomach. No joke. Sometimes I get the feeling of horrible diarrhea, but it's just anxiety.

Should I just lay in bed when this happens or should I distract myself with videogames? I don't think I ever had it when I play videogames when I get anxiety should I just play games?

Surrender it all to Jesus Christ.

Srs. I fear nothing anymore. I give it all to Jesus, My strengths, my weakness, my triumphs, my failures, my fears, my heartache, my pain, my heart, my trust, my love.

I'm not blessed with riches, but I am rich with blessings.
Thank you, LORD, my God.

Whatever you do, don't start drinking to calm your anxiety. Very Srs.

- meditation can be really helpful. I like using an app these days. I use "Daily Calm" for guided meditation and really like it.

- there are many supps already recommended in this thread. I'd seriously look into magnesium at night to help you calm down and go to bed with a more clear mind. The "calm" supplement is good.

- push yourself out of your comfort zone more often. Often times life gets stale and dull, especially as a working adult, amd doing something to get your adrenaline going can help even things out.

- cut back on caffeine and sugar/carbs.

- if the above and the other recommendations here don't help, look into seeing a therapist amd doing some self exploration and cbt.

Good luck, brah. Anxiety sucks and it's a crap way to go about life.

Lifelong GAD checking in. What works for me with effectiveness ratings:

- ashwaghanda (ksm66) 7/10
- l-theanine 4/10
- Absolute maximum 1 serving of caffeine per day 7/10 (previously went 2 years no caffeine, personally I don't think 0 is significantly better than a small amount)
- cold showers 9/10
- Books: Happiness trap - 6/10 , Awareness by Anthony de Mello - 8/10 (can be a bit woo, but awareness is the only book that significantly reduces my anxiety every time I read it)
- Avoiding hunger, fat and protein during the day, carbs only in the last meal of the day 7/10
- Intense aerobic exercise 6/10

Biggest thing I've learnt personally is that anxiety/depression for me is always rooted in an attachment or a desire. Guarantee if you look at what is actually causing the anxiety it's the belief that something should be a certain way but it isn't. You need to learn what desires and attachments are worth holding onto and which ones to give up on.

Agree, Jesus is the long-term plan, but the day to day is what gets me. I honestly don't know what is causing my anxiety though, it's like I tell my wife "I feel anxious" it comes and goes but it's coming a lot more often. I think it just disappeared, so from 10 to 11. So 12 hours it finally went away.

It sucks lately there have been changes at work, and I feel the need for caffeine. At most I drink 1 cup a day, but even that is pushing it. I do agree, I get much better sleep without it. I was on a streak and drank 0 coffee for a month, but then all these BS projects showed up at work, and I needed to be on point for it. Now it's going away, so want to try to get off caffeine.

Yea, I'm clean. Don't drink ever. The last time I drank, it was over a decade ago.

For the magnesium, do you think I should drink it at night?
I have the CALM Magnesium too, it's halfway gone, but I usually just eat it with dinner, so around 5 to 6. Should I save it for night like an hour before bed?

I'm gonna try to cut down on caffeine for real, I will just chug water if I feel like I need to focus. The only things I drink are just water and heavily watered down limeade.

I knew a good therapist (from my wife), but she quit, so it kinda sucks going in blind, but hope it doesn't come to that.

Thanks for the support brah. Means a lot to me.

I used to have full blown panic attacks/panic disorder. These things I say can not be underestimated and itโ€™s really basic but you have to clean up your diet and do some intense ass cardio and weights. reduce time spent on screens that isnโ€™t work related to near zero minutes. I will literally run the anxiety out of my body by exhausting myself

I promise you if you run 5k as fast as you can (build yourself up obviously) 3-4x a week youโ€™ll be god mode. Intensity has to be 100%

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, very tried and true. Usually can get it as part of a mental health plan from the GP which means you get 6 or so complementary sessions.

I heard this very recently too and it really helps me: What is anxiety, really, but making conspiracy theories about yourself? Or betting on your personal demons? Why would you do that? Conspiracy theorists are losers who sit in basements gobbling chicken nuggets all day, and have no friends beyond the internet. If you don't make conspiracy theories about the government or world domination schemes, why would you make them about yourself?

And always remember: The depressed man lives in the past, the anxious man lives in the future, the peaceful man lives in the present.
Back off, Warchild.

Seriously.

Cosign re:get outside. You also might try grounding which is a fancy term for standing on the ground barefoot.

Can say that I've felt better in the past when I did this- skip breakfast, spin classes, regular trail walks, and shifting carbs to the end of the day.

As obesity rates increase, anxiety/depression rates do too.

Humans aren't supposed to sit indoors all day, have food delivered, and have machines complete almost 100% of their tasks.

This should be obvious.

And no, parking your car far away at the grocery store is not exercise lmao.

300 minutes of focused exercise per week should be the absolute minimum. I'd argue for 450 minutes being optimal. So if you do 5 days per week of exercise, it should be 90 minutes each of those days. Even that doesn't seem like enough IMO.....

Yesterday I did 210 minutes, today only about 70.

Don't medicate for this. Anxiety is a state of mind, a mental thing. Don't entertain it.

Think on positive things OP. If you let the negativity and the thought that you have anxiety, consume you, then you'll have anxiety.

Proverbs 23:7

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he

When you feel the anxiety coming on:
Relax
Breathe - take deep breaths and then exhale
Workout
Find a hobby
Drink more water
Drink less caffeine
Get a massage
Take long walks
Meditate
Pray

Phil 4:8
whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Currently exercise 5-6 days a week. Last week I didn't work out for chit because I was in meetings all day at work then basically had my own stuff to do afterwards. So pulled 16+ hour days, Maybe that caused it? That was a one time thing, so shouldn't happen again. Currently feel unusual, but sitting in bed for 20 minutes not flexing stomach or fighting it, just have that feeling of diarrhea.

You try talking to anyone or therapy? Itll help you see things more objectively and not get so wrapped up in your head
