My wife and I both essentially agree with that sentiment, even though we wouldn’t have said it so explicitly to our children at that age. But we did say it with our actions. They definitely never saw m me give money to a homeless person. I’ve bought them food though.

There is a spectrum though and even the difference between being upper-class -> having to downscale (which can happen due to a variety of reasons outside of being lazy, stupid etc) can cause trouble. Regardless of all of this, she is still right. Women aren't as attracted to extreme wealth as much as a man with ambition. You don't have to have it all now, but you need the drive. If you were to hit rock bottom tomorrow, I'm sure you could claw your way back up to some form of stability. No other man should have to buy food for you to eat in fuking AMERICA of all places. I live in a 3rd world island of piss and can support myself from zero.

She's also right in saying most of these people begging on the streets are trying to fund their drug/alcohol addictions. If they choose that over eating, that's on them.

That's true. In fact, depending on how she said and how she behaves in general (which only OP knows, maybe he thought this was thread worthy because he has a lot more situations of different types?), it could be her simply trying to remind their son - which is a good thing.

Slightly disagree with the buying dope over food being a choice. Willpower doesnt exist outside the brain and if the brain is hijacked from some chemical dependency it is mostly over. Uphill battle, which some have won, but there are many parts to it apart from a choice.

That being said, I dont expect any person to give them money because yes it would probably go for drugs.

I used to buy bums food when they asked me for money all the time. I would say around 90% of the time they seemed disappointed you gave them food, rather than money. I thought the look of disappoint in their faces was hilarious and sad at the same time, only a small amount were actually grateful for the food.

Your wife sounds like she is smarter than you. She probably understands that she has to be a little extreme with your son to instill values in him, when society is literally trying to destroy them. He'll eventually grow old enough to form his own opinion and put things in a more appropriate context. The parents job is to influence their child as much as they can to improve their chances of success, or the predatory govnt/system will use them, abuse them, and spit them out.

You would probably roll down your window, give the bum money, and teach your son acceptance of that weakness. Then when he goes to school, the teachers will teach him to hate himself, and next thing you know he wants to wear a skirt instead of pants. I feel like there are times when we all like to pretend we are better than other people because that idea is very satiating to the ego. I wouldn’t be offended by that though.

I've given money to bums before but a lot are just annoying as ****

1 ) had a rough day once and was walking out of a store and there was like 3 able bodied guys ask me for $ I simply told them " I work for my $" and they lost it at me and cursed me out

2) was a store across the street from where I used to live. This guy ( didn't even seem disabled ) camped out front of the store and asked customers if they had" bus money " i called him out something to the effect of " you seem to need to take the bus a lot "
( the ones who will just camp out outside a store etc are annoying af)


And downtown I often see people hold signs up that says something like " traveling. Anything helps " ... it's nobody else fault you decided to travel the country with No $ ...get a job.


I feel bad for some of these people but a lot are just lazy scum bags taking advantage of people

You’re ridiculing him for the fact he may have not been the driver of the car. Do I really need to explain why this is immature and retarded? How insecure are you that if your wife is driving you feel less of a man?

As for what she’s teaching her son. Just because she reeled off an explanation does not mean that is what the boy learned. As I said earlier, actions speak louder than words, and to my mind what the boy really learned was his mother’s disgust at the sight of the man in the car in-front giving money to the homeless person. Her exact “justification” is secondary.

Your final statement is just you ridiculing OP’s concern over the events and his more compassionate outlook. Once again, I shouldn’t have to explain why you sound immature and retarded here.

The middle segment of your post is the only part that doesn’t sound especially trollish.
