Tower was my fav, we used to spend hours listening to imports and rare bands while checking out the girls.

So i went to 1 of the 2 biggest malls in the area last week and yup, ghost town confirmed.
There were moms with strollers, and a few teens but for the most part the flagship stores are low on inventory and they don't have the same selection as before.
The order online without inspecting the materials is highly over rated.
There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

Yep, I remember in my younger years that was where I practiced my cold approach game. Difficult to cold approach in retail stores nowadays, not much of a selection and the girls aren’t used to it anymore because nobody does it

Tower records was it for me. Used to go there just to browse, such an amazing selection especially for metal. Sam Goody by my place was second rate (eventually turned into FYE) but had members of bands working there always gave me trippy music to listen to.

We had a couple of older plaza style outdoor malls, two regular big indoor malls, and an outlet mall all within maybe 5 miles. The plaza malls were already kind of rough. One seems to stay occupied at least. The one big department store there was turned into an auto garage. The outlet mall was converted to offices around 2000. One of the big indoor malls was shuttered and sat for a while. Finally got torn down and they are redeveloping it into government offices/housing.

We have one big indoor mall left. It has changed a lot through the years. Definitely past peak...still some big anchors, but most of the smaller stores are really cheap stuff you would not see in malls before as they couldn't afford the high rent for the space.

Last few times I went to find things in person I found myself leaving empty handed and browsing Amazon after returning home. Pissed me off, but now I'm too used to Amazon actually having what I need vs the wasted gas of going to 3 stores, none of which have anything.

Hell, even Olympia Sport doesn't carry weight sets anymore. They offered the floor model, and that isit, the last time I checked.

The retail stores that go out of business are the ones that don’t adapt. ^ user above me makes a good point; Amazon has almost all major essentials, regardless of sector.

Walmart and Costco are perfect examples of how to compete and stay relevant; Walmart offers their version of an online marketplace; at the same time, they keep relevance for shopping in-person for the essentials. And by having locations every city, you’re more likely to get something quick through them as well. Costco offers the same relevance for in-store shopping. Plus, Costco offers an affordable membership for the perks you get with them.

Any of these companies that are losing out are simply the ones staying stuck in the past business models.

I will be honest.

I do have the chance, and I do shop there and pay more, and purposefully don't just buy stuff online for less.

But then, perhaps I am an idiot and have served my usefulness.

I will "ride or die" will JCPenney and Sears and Macy's at the mall.

Will take (stupid) pride in never having set foot in WalMart, Costco, Target, etc.

Yeah, I know.

There are some items you have to get in a brick and mortar store such as shoes and pants. I am lazy and don't like crowds so I've made the mistake to buys those and they don't fit so you have to deal with returns.

I can't deal with Costco. That place gives me a panic attack just thinking of it.
