It's pathetic now how Americans view booze. They now serve hard drinks at the zoo. Brb can't take my kids around to see animals they love without a drink.

Whole foods now has cocktails you can carry around while shopping. If you can't grocery shop without drinking you have a major problem.

They need to make beds which dispense an alcoholic beverage to drink when you first wake up. No way in hell I'm getting out of bed and starting my day being sober.

I have a lot of respect for people who risk a dry wedding. A lot of guests are going to be unable to cope socially while sober. The prudent thing would be to have 10 guests, close friends and immediate family only and keep it a short affair.

While I think not going because it's dry is a bad excuse, I actually support you not going OP based on your prerogative. Just decline, why is a thread needed?

sure thats not a big deal. the fact is this family values a dry wedding, so perhaps, just this one time, OP can be a normal person and enjoy ONE evening with family without alcohol. is it really that hard?

lol this, these people are the definition of being so plugged into the matrix that they can't have a good time without drugs. getting drunk is degenerate no matter how you want to view it just because it has been socially acceptable for 100s of years. it's such a problem in society people can't even function or control themselves and costs taxpayers to deal with the complications and aftermath. although it is big business at this point.

where I live they are doing some sort of "pilot project" where they are allowing people to bring booze and get drunk at the parks.

I don’t think that’s it at all. The issue is weddings absolutely suck and nobody likes them- having at least a little buzz makes it tolerable.

Been to a dry /very religious wedding before. Wood not recommend. The entire event turns into “who brought booze?” And pound shots in the parking lot.

Went to a dry wedding once as an adult. It was for my wife's friend who is genuinely a good person. It wasn't terrible because the wedding was mid-late morning and reception started shortly after. There was about an hour in between where we stopped and had a quick bite while I got a few beers. Think we left the reception around 4PM. A dry wedding isn't that bad in this type of circumstance...but just WTF at having a dry wedding on a boat where people presumably can't leave until the boat docks afterward.

You don't drink. Good for you. It's normally implied at a wedding. I can go anywhere and have fun without a drink. A wedding is not one of those places. For me, and judging from many replies here, we hate going to weddings.

Since you don't drink, understand that alcohol can make events you have to attend, tolerable. If people didn't get all butthurt when you didn't show up, I wouldn't have gone to most of the weddings I've been invited to.

That's just not true. There was no alcohol at my wedding. There was none at my sister's. My son is getting married in December, and I guarantee you there won't be any there either.

I guess I haven't been to a ton of weddings, but I can only think of one where there was a bar. And that couple is still married... but they go to AA every day now and I'm dead serious.

So you guys can paint me as a judgmental prick if you want, but you're the ones coping by making drinking at a family function normal or intolerable without an impaired mindset. Srs.
