I think all a company do is get your info verified (dates / title) I don't know if in OK they can say they fired you, check into it. Might just be dates.

You have been there for so long, you should get your recommendations from your colleagues. Fucc HR dude, she isn't your friend and by no means should you think she will help you. Rely on people you were close with, quid pro quo

They always want you to give them weeks/months of advance notice but they have security walk you out the instant they're done with you.

It likely had 0 to do with you or your performance. A lot of companies are doing the restructuring thing, and the new corporate culture is often a 180 from what it was before. A lot of young people in leadership positions as well. Companies want to modernize, and some prefer to start fresh. Good ones put in the effort to get existing employees to adapt.

WTF Op. Why did she fire you? Not even a hint? You think there's some type of takeover? You were there 12 years, so obviously not a poor performer. These companies ain'tsshit

12 Years down the drain SMH. Hope you find a much much better venue.

I'll get those as well, but so many have left over the last few years, there are only a handful left that I have worked with the entire time. It started two years ago when the execs at the main company fired the President of our company. Everyone started leaving except for my dumbass self. I've had three different bosses in that two year span. Many have gone to a direct competitor.

I guess I should have known a few weeks back when I had to drive up there for employee reviews and they trashed all of my direct reports. Downgraded all but one to a C rating. Felt like I was punching up while defending them.

20k severance for 12 years of service? The ****?

Should get like 40k

You're getting jewed.

Typical severance packages offer one to two weeks of paid salary for every year worked according to investopedia

Since you worked 12 years you should get 12 to 24 weeks of salary

Let's say you get 12 which is 3 months salary

So 20k for 3 months or 80k for a year?

That's poverty.

You should walk away with a lot more

https://www.investopedia.com/article...0year%20worked.

I know you're reeling from getting laid off but you have to put aside your feelings and be logical about your situation. Do research, gather information and make a calculated decision

First, don't accept their severance package.

Second, read that **** over and don't sign it instantly. Then read it again the next day and think through your options

Third, maybe get a lawyer as you may see more money.

Give yourself time to digest and decompress man, at least know that it's nothing to do with you but the company's incompetence.

File for unemployment asap and cobra as needed.

Dust off those old contacts at their competitors and start calling around. Bring them down and make em pay.

Who knows, this may be a blessing in disguise.

Well, about 6 months ago a guy that had worked there 30 years got walked out. He got scooped up by the main competitor. He reached out to me tonight saying they need help. Not even sure how he found out about it, but thankful he did. He wants me to call tomorrow.

Going to bed with a smile tonight. Thank God!

Yeah I worked my ass off for a company and never was given an opportunity to move up. They hired a random woman hr for our area and she had everyone vote on an employee of the month. I got it and she terminated the next day. I worked at holland for 10 years and yellow bought it and they closed the doors this week. Man that job had good pay and a ton of overtime. I’ve never had good luck getting good jobs. I had to work like a dog to get full time. I’ll never have anything like it. Been applying. Also been having health issues on top of everything else and my life hasn’t been that great. Might rope by this time next year

Congrats dude but don't let the job opportunity make you ready to brush a huge severance payment under the rug. For 12 years you better get a huge severance payment

Loyalty means nothing these days. You got canned after 12. The Lowes woman got canned after 16. I got canned after 4 even though I did all the extra crap they always asked me to do. It's straight piss.

Actually no. You can do exactly what they ask of you but it's up to them to determine whether or not what you did was satisfactory or not. If they think they could find someone to do it better or feel that the way you did it would be a pattern of behavior they could see as problematic then they can still can you "because".

Not everything is straight to a lawsuit. Read the fine print and you'll see there's only 1 reason to hire and about 100 to fire.

Well, looking like the Summer of George and LDAR won't be happening. HR from the competitor called me this morning. They are expanding and building a new facility. They are discussing creating a new position for me. Several former employees from my old job work there and she said they sent her messages about me leaving my former employer and needing work, all with good things to say.

Odd how the world works sometimes.

Sounds like my old female boss. Karma finally caught up with her and she died from cancer a couple of years ago. I wouldn't have wished that on her in a million years, but she certainly earned it.

Chances are she fired you and will fire a few others solely to save her own job. "I told him to build a team but he didn't" lie so she can escape culpability to the higher ups. I don't think men or women are better than the other but in these pressure work scenarios women lie infinitely more than men to save their own skin. That will always be the case, which complicates everything.

Congrats but I'd still talk to a lawyer. Sounds like you got screwed and it's worth getting legal advice. Could net you a lot more in severance though make sure you take legal fees into account. I wouldn't pay for the initial consultation.

Sorry to hear that, boyo. That must have been really shocking. Take that severance, some time for yourself, rest and recover, and get back on that horse with a vengeance. Don't let a bullschit event like this cause you to go full LDAR. Don't give them the satisfaction.
