Got fired today, time to LDAR

Dear Diary,

Worked for the company for 12 years. Got a new boss 6 months ago who works out of the main company in a different state. One of my direct reports left soon after due to having worked for the lady before. Two others left within a few months due to having to deal with her. Told me not to hire anyone until she restructures, keeps saying she is still working on restructure. Had to work long hours during this time due to being understaffed. Let me go for not building my team. Completely out of the blue, no discussion prior about performance. Had me escorted out of the building straight from HR.

At least they are giving me 20k, insurance, and a placement service for a few months.

Fuark I hate interviewing, probably just going to LDAR.

Maybe take that to a lawyer, you can't be fired for cause for following direct instructions.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

How? Some states are "at will" employment. They can fire you for whatever reason, so long as its not based on gender, race, etc.

We'd need clarity on the state, but any good lawyer worth a piss can get around that. I've seen it happen first hand. An employer would rather pay than go to court, especially when they are wrong. And it's not like he's trying to reverse the outcome. They still 'won'. He just needs to go after what's fair compensation. Now, if the employer is smart, when they handed him the $20K, they made him sign away his rights to future litigation. Still fightable in states like California and New York though.

12 years is way too long to be at the same place unless your pay was already maxed out for what you do. This is probably a blessing in disguise.

LOL @ not building your team.

WTF does that even mean?

Corporate cocksuckers are so out of touch with reality.

Congrats on the severance though. I hate interviewing too. Take some time and enjoy life, spend time with the fam, take a deep breath. Sounds like the ship was sinking anyway.

Oklahoma is an at will state. I have 21 days to sign away future litigation. I'm most likely going to take the money and run. HR lady was at least nice about it, said I handled it respectfully and that it means something. I'll call her tomorrow and ask for a positive recommendation from the company in exchange for signing. If they agree, I'll absolutely sign it.

That part was cold as ice. I have absolutely zero understanding why they felt the need to do that. I've never even raised my voice at work. Probably due to me having access to sensitive company information, but I'd never be a dick about that stuff.
