I've always detested places that have tip lines at the bottom of their pickup orders. If I did the driving and paid for the gas/having a car in good working order to go pick up the food myself, then why the hell are they asking for tips? The only thing that kind of makes it make sense is if it's a default setting and all of their receipts print out that way, but they could easily make receipts print differently with/without tip lines in 2023.

Secondly, Tipped employees have been lying to everyone for 10 years that they'll only earn $2/hr if they don't get any tip. Also semi forced tipping only exists in America(and Canada to a lesser extent) because Americans do'nt know how to say no because of how spoiled they have become. In Japan, NOBODY tips and if you ask anyone for tips, you'll get scolded. Tip beggars will never stop until we stop them. Simple as that.
You're fukn retarded..... That's literally what I am saying. Don't expect the customer to cover wages

I would understand that but the line said "additional tip". What kills me is people will do it because they feel obligated

It is the employeers responsibility to pay their employees a fair wage. If they do not, its on the employee to find work that will. It is NEVER the customers job to pay the employees outside of buying the good/service.

When I worked in resturants as a teen on slow days we would have to get supplemental pay to make minimum wage as our hourly rate was $2.15. So my employeer could hire a herd of us, pay us pennies, then pass off the difference between $2.15 and minimum wage to the customer based on some social "rule". It was only rainy days a few times a year when they actually had to shell out the extra few bucks an hour to meet minimum wage. Even then I understood the system.

There was a tip option at take 5 oil change last week. Even on my company CC i said no, I mean how do you have the balls to ask for a tip for just doing your job? Its become insane. Next they'll have an open gofundme with faces of the employees at the counter lmao.

That's how it works in every country on Earth except America(and Canada to a lesser extent) because of the whole shame culture on people that don't tip. People outside of America get really confused and say "Why can't Americans just say no to tips? Are Americans that fragile"? so yes, it's a big cultural problem. People in the world laugh at Americans for being so fragile and being so afraid of not paying tips. Weak mentality.

Except it's more expensive to make your own so it kind of nullified the bitching about tipping.
No, it is not more expensive and you don't gotta do it from scratch. You can get pre-made pizza dough, sauce, cheese and whatever other topping you want way cheaper than a pizza place before tipping.
Yeah dude but I'm not gonna be stiffing delivery drivers of places
I dunno about where you are, but where I am there is a charge for delivery. So they are charging you to pay for this guy to deliver the crap and then you're expected to also tip this guy because he delivered your crap.

**** that, I am checking out.

oven @ 500 degrees for about 13 minutes.

fresh dough is the game changer IMO. I love making my pizzas.
Yes.

Obviously, you're giving a more accurate take in pricing it out based on the one pizza you make with it, and not factoring in unused ingredients.

The thing is, most people don't have the time/energy to spend an hour and half cooking everything from scratch every day, so stuff like ordering pizzas/making frozen meals/making easy meals happens sometimes. Then you've got folks who won't use up all the spare ingredients (which could probably make a few pizzae) they buy to make their homemade pizza before they go bad and need to be thrown out, making it more expensive.
True for some things, not for pizza. You have a long time to use yeast, flour, and oil. Shredded cheese can be frozen if you really can't use it up before it expires. And tomato paste sold in tubes lasts a long time in the fridge.

But if you CBA then for frozen pizza:

- Red Baron Brick Oven cheese or pepperoni

- Newman's Own imported white pizza or margherita...the others are meh

- Signature Select store brand from Albertson's/Safeway thin crust...cheese or spicy Italian sausage IMO

- Archer Farms from Target if you are willing to shop there

- sometimes Aldi has good imported pizza...have to grab them when they show up

Source: mom w/a cheese pizza fan kid who isn't willing to shell out $20 for pizza...years of research people.

Also Trader Joe's sells refrigerated dough if you want to make your own, but don't want to deal with making pizza dough.

Not gonna lie, I'd much prefer if sit-down places universally got rid of tipping and just charged enough on the actual menu prices so they can pay their workers properly without tips being involved. Literally every place outside of the restaurant industry manages to do it just fine, and have done so forever.

As for people who like to moan about how they worry that service would be worse without the American tipping system in place, I'm not convinced that it matters. Service has sucked almost everywhere for close to 4 years now, and I can't remember the last time I saw service that was so great it made me genuinely feel like tipping them rather than doing it just because. Plus, almost the rest of the planet doesn't do tipping culture for anything, including restaurants, so we are clearly the oddballs of the world when it comes to our obsession as a society with tipping.

Yeah but the raw meats and veggies can go bad stupidly fast if you don't use them up within a few days/get the meat frozen. It's a fkn hassle, not even factoring in the time and effort of making a pizza from scratch.I'm not saying it's a bad thing to do; I agree that homemade pizza done well will always be pretty much the best. But no, I don't have the time or ambition to make homemade pizzas multiple times a week.

It's more of a special thing that I do on occasion rather than a normal thing. It kind of has to be when half ot my time is so crunched by default that doing much besides throwing a frozen meal in the oven/make a super easy meal or picking something up.

Correct. In my experience of visiting about a dozen countries, Japan had the best service at restaurants and NOBODY got tips there. Tips were banned in every restaurant. The reason why America can't fix the tipping issue is because people are abnormally fragile and are afraid to say "no". People all over the world that I've met got super confused and asked "why don't Americans just say no and don't tip?". Well the answer is Americans are so fragile to the point that the'yre shaking in their boots to say no to tip beggars. I haven't been paying a SINGLE TIP for over 3 years now and my life has been excellent.

What needs to be thrown out?

flour, salt, olive oil keeps FOREVER.... bacon goes bad eventually, cheese goes bad quickly, but I use the entire amount of mozarella that I buy when I make a pizza....

I literally don't remember ever throwing away any of my "extra" pizza ingredients.

are people really so out of touch with making their own food that they don't realize this? jesus christ.

I don't mind tipping for good service as a reward. But I absolutely hate the entitlement and/or being coerced into tipping.

For example, I hate:

- When they flip the screen around with tip options starting at 20% when there is zero service involved.
- Automatic "gratuity" being added to checks.
- "Service fees"
- Basically any additional line item appearing on my check that I did not specifically order.

Those are all ways to get me to not tip at all.
Always Neg Back Crew.

Americans are completely spoiled because of their material/financial comfort/abundance. Something like a revolution will happen in a country like France first since the material condition has been going downhill fast in France.

Yeah but I'd rather eat a frozen Jack's pizza over a basic cheap pie at a chain dump.

Speaking of that, remember how you could find Jack's pizzas for like $2.50, sometimes even 5 for $10 a few years ago? They're like $4 - 4.50 now lmao

Have a day job in hospitality-related business. I will definitely feel no shame showing someone a tip screen. Why would you? It's the customers choice whether they wanna be manipulated by social pressure.

At the same time will turn around and rustle jimmies of coworkers when they start complaining about not getting tipped and tell em they don't deserve ****. IMO, only problem with tips is entitlement. If you're gonna get all rustled at a little social pressure that's on you.

I don't believe food service folks actually **** with food. Unless you're being a kunt

Speaking of that, remember how you could find Jack's pizzas for like $2.50, sometimes even 5 for $10 a few years ago? They're like $4 - 4.50 now lmao
I agree on the quality; I'm simply talking price. My wife and I make our own most of the time we have pizza. I make a ****ing awesome Margherita pizza and she does a Thai one with peanut/hoisin sauce which is pretty phenomenal as well.

Holy fook that makes me rage. Those frozen cardboard pizzas are even more expensive by me. No joke, it's 6.99 for one of them. Like you said, you could get one for about $2.50 not on sale a few years back. We'd rarely do frozen pizza, but we'd always have a couple on hand for a drunken late night snack. Now we just get a frozen 'gourmet' pizza from a local pizza joint that supplies the local grocery stores. They're only a buck or two more than the frozen cardboard pizzas now. Crazy how quickly everything got so expensive.

Anything about 18% goes to me and is really appreciated". I just did the 18% but felt like doing 0% after being trapped like that.
I had that recently too. the 18% auto included split among all the staff and any additional is for your specific server...but at that point, why don't they just increase the price of everything on the menu by 20%, pay their employees more, and remove tipping from their establishment. At this point it might actually gain them extra customers with how many people say they would prefer to not see tips.

But who knows, maybe seeing a single burger and fries cost $20 instead of the already high $16, would deter more people even though the $20 would exempt a person from even seeing a tip line.

There's a really really good reason for that.

First, servers are getting way overpaid for what they do due to tips. There are a lot of research and data showing that a typical restaurant server in US earns a significant amount more than servers in Germany, Japan or any other major country BECAUSE of tips. Whoever insists on keeping the tipping culture is propping up socialism for servers.

Secondly, there are always some dumbass retards that virtue signal and pay like 50-100% tips just to make herself feel like a good person. you might think that happens so rare that it doesn't make a difference but when I worked at restaurants before, there were always some regulars that would always leave pretty large tips and those large tips significantly bump the wages.

Anyways, this tipping culture has been some sweet socialism for waiters/waitresses and no, they will never give up that sweet socialism. The only way for it to be stopped is, we the people, collectively start tipping less and less and gradually make it obsolete.
