We've reached a tipping point regarding tipping culture in America. Srs.

I'm not saying that tipping culture will be eradicated from the U.S. or anything, but people are actually starting to get annoyed with it on a mainstream level at this point. Heard it brought up on an AM radio show I listen to recently, the concept of "Has tipping gone too far?" with everyone and their grandmother now asking for tips. First time I've ever heard people openly complain about tipping culture outside of the internet.

I ordered a pizza the other night. 1 large pizza off of their main menu costed me like $27 fuking dollars, pre-tip. The pizza delivery guy shows up 20 minutes late, after I had already waited 1 full hour they said it would take. So an 80 minute wait time for a $27+ pizza.

I took the pizza, didn't complain about it being 20 minutes late after a 1 hour wait (even though I was literally about to call them back and ask them wtf they were doing right as he showed up), filled out the tip, and added $6 just for the driver. So about a 22% tip. Did he say thanks? Hell no. Dude just looked mildly disappointed before he left. I seriously might as well have just bought a high end frozen pizza for $12 and paid less than 40% than I did ordering the damn thing.

i agree but the good thing about tipping is that it's optional. So don't tip lol. Only people getting angry about tipping culture are the ones who feel "Morally" obligated to tip because they're afraid of being judged. Fuk 'em basically.

Just buy some Hot Pockets next time you're at the ggrocery store. It does a good job for the pizza cravings and they're like $2.

Yeah dude but I'm not gonna be stiffing delivery drivers of places I might ever order from again. Those places keep your phone number and address on file these days, and I guarantee they keep tabs on people who don't tip. Most places still don't even put sealant stickers on the food to prevent the driver's from F'ing with it, and even if they did, who says that Matthew isn't having a laugh with his pal Paco in the kitchen putting boogers/etc. in your food before they box it up?

But yeah, tipping culture getting out of control is precisely why I only order out a few times a year, and only from places that hire their own drivers. 1. Eating out is already stupidly expensive to begin with these days, 2. They charge like $4+ for delivery fees (and constantly making the fees worse) that they never used to charge at all 10 - 15 years ago, and 3. The drivers think you're a prick if you don't give them a 50%+ tip.

Piss on all that noise. I have no idea how people justify using Uber Eats/Door Dash type delivery services when that costs even more money.

The tipping percentage seems to get higher every year. When I was a kid 10% was standard and now servers look at you crooked for leaving less than 25%. Also even retail stores ask you to tip on the checkout machine now. Not gonna do it. The only reason I do at restaurants is because people will 100% fuk with your food and don't want to be remembered as that guy and wind up with pubes in my mouth

Lol at tipping delivery like you would a waiter.

Op whadyou expect from him? Delivering is a very expensive business. Trucking company charges 10x what a pizza guy does for the same distance. It is notoriously expensive and even established delivery companies go outta business.

If delivery was an hour already prolly a good pizza and busy restaurant. I know if I order from a good place that is highly rated by portnoy they sometimes say theyre outta pizzas for the day or don't give a specific time on delivery. Just get dominos and it'll be on time and cheap.

How much is your time worth to pick it up? How far away are you? Six dollars is decent but do you live ten miles away? It's not worth driver's time for at least half an hour trip.

Ofc cheap fuktard miscers will chime in about not tipping ever despite making 10k a day and having beautiful wives...neither is close to true irl.

Nope. The stupidly high prices and bad economy are making people eat out less in general, far more than it effects tips specifically. People who are too poor to handle paying a tip aren't usually the ones doing the most eating out.

People are just sick and tired of so many places asking for tips now, and how ridiculous the amount you are expected to tip is getting. When I was a kid, a 10% tip was customary unless they were terrible at their serving job, 15% if they did a pretty good job, and 20%+ was reserved for really good service - and, it was only asked for by sit-down restaurants and delivery drivers.

Nowadays, anything less than 20% for a tip, and they act like you're completely stiffing them. They want like 30% - 40% tips, which is F'ing insane to try to have as a standard. That, combined with how every other business now has tip jars/receipts with tip lines begging for tips, and people have started getting annoyed with it all.

The pizza joint I ordered from is literally a 5 minute drive away from me. Even if the driver wasn't incorperating numerous deliveries during the same trip he did to deliver mine (which he obviously was if there was 60 minute wait time and they were 20 minutes late), the $6 tip still would have been worth 10 minutes total of driving for the guy.

Yeah, I get a bit annoyed when a place that's 5 minutes away from me is 20 minutes late from the delivery time they told me and the driver acts like I'm an assshole for not tipping them 40% - 50%.

Make your own pizza from scratch.

I use a bread machine to mix the flour/oil/water/yeast (takes 90 min), I buy some sauce, a ball of mozarella cheese, and some basil.... buy a block of parmesean to grate over the pizza for MAX flavor. You can also do bacon, or even jalapeno slices for some spice.

oven @ 500 degrees for about 13 minutes.

fresh dough is the game changer IMO. I love making my pizzas.

They ask for fooking tips when you place an order for pick up. They ask for fooking tips at Subway. This **** is out of control.

Except it's more expensive to make your own so it kind of nullified the bitching about tipping.

I went to a bakery to pick up a cake for my wife's birthday a couple of weeks ago. It was a "fancy" cake from a nice bakery, so when they said it would cost $110 after taxes I thought expensive but whatever. When I went to pick it up they had me pay on their ipad that asked if I wanted to tip, the lowest option being 18%. What would I tip them for? Does over $100 for a cake not cover their costs and wages?? It really irritated me because I know there are people who would have tipped just because the option was given to them

Tipping isn't a thing in UK generally as we have a set minimum wage regardless of job type, where as in the states waiters etc have a much lower minimum wage level than say a labourer due to tipping culture. That being said, the only time I tip for anything is when I go out to a restaurant. If the food is good i'll throw a 10% tip.

No fooking lie, but I went to a brunch place with 2 other people. The waitress brought our bill and gave a speech that "18% gratuity is included in your bill, but that doesn't go to me; that goes to all staff members so we can earn a livable wage. Anything about 18% goes to me and is really appreciated". I just did the 18% but felt like doing 0% after being trapped like that.

Yeah, of course homemade food made well will almost always be better than restaurant food. Thanks for letting me know about that rare wisdom.

Okay first of all, you should know that in ALL 50 states, EVERY tipped employee is legally guaranteed the full regular minimum wage, so for example, if a server gets $0 tip on any day or week or month, the employer is legally required to compensate the difference so that the employee's total earning is at least the "regular full minimum wage"(so $15/hr in MA, CT, NY etc etc).

Secondly, you should've tipped $0 and I have been tipping $0 everywhere for years now. Tipped employees have been lying to everyone for 10 years that they'll only earn $2/hr if they don't get any tip. Also semi forced tipping only exists in America(and Canada to a lesser extent) because Americans do'nt know how to say no due to PC culture and leftist education. In Japan, NOBODY tips and if you ask anyone for tips, you'll get scolded.

tf are you talking about?

The most expensive thing is the cheese, and that's only like $4....

I think my whole pizza from scratch costs maybe $9. $11.50 if I do bacon.

Digorno changed their sauce about a decade back or so, and it's been awful ever since.

Besides that, Digorno was never a legitimate high end frozen pizza brand. Digorno is just really good at marketing, or at least they were at one time. They sucessfully sold the idea that they are a high-end frozen pizza brand to the uninitiated. Once you are initiated, you will learn to look almost exclusively for frozen pizza brands that are a bit more local. You'd be surprised at how common that is to be able to find solid frozen pizzas that are made in your state, or at least region, and they're always better than the national brands.

That's ridiculous... Why not just pay them a livable wage instead of charging us 18%?

I picked up some food to go that I ordered online last week. They had me sign a receipt that actually asked me if I want to tip more. WTF? Why would I suddenly want to tip more after doing all the service myself?

Tipping is so out of control and retarded these days, I just don't do things where people expect a tip. Make your own food, cut your own hair etc. If these people want to feel so entitled to a tip then fuk 'em, they can get no business and be out of a job for all I care

Making your own pizza costs more if you look at the total cost of the ingredients you have to buy in order to make it.

Obviously, you're giving a more accurate take in pricing it out based on the one pizza you make with it, and not factoring in unused ingredients.

The thing is, most people don't have the time/energy to spend an hour and half cooking everything from scratch every day, so stuff like ordering pizzas/making frozen meals/making easy meals happens sometimes. Then you've got folks who won't use up all the spare ingredients (which could probably make a few pizzae) they buy to make their homemade pizza before they go bad and need to be thrown out, making it more expensive.

Used to be there was only an automatic "gratuity" applied to large parties. Now 3 people requires an automatic tip and they want even more on top of that. lmao

Bodybuilders Against Tipping tried to warn us.

I'm sick of piece of **** like you. What do you mean living wage? They already get full regular minimum wage. What? you wanna up the minimum wage to $20/hr now? first of all, you should know that in ALL 50 states, EVERY tipped employee is legally guaranteed the full regular minimum wage, so for example, if a server gets $0 tip on any day or week or month, the employer is legally required to compensate the difference so that the employee's total earning is at least the "regular full minimum wage"(so $15/hr in MA, CT, NY etc etc).

Secondly, Tipped employees have been lying to everyone for 10 years that they'll only earn $2/hr if they don't get any tip. Also semi forced tipping only exists in America(and Canada to a lesser extent) because Americans do'nt know how to say no because of how spoiled they have become. In Japan, NOBODY tips and if you ask anyone for tips, you'll get scolded. Tip beggars will never stop until we stop them. Simple as that.
