I don't know, just got quotes from an autobody shop I want to use. One for something covered by insurance, one for a scratch on my bumper that I am paying out of pocket. Estimates seemed ridiculous to me, at least one is covered.

Aside from major plumbing jobs (a massive leak under the house or a literal initial plumbing installation into a new home) there's really no need for a plumber.

a quick youtube search and a trip to home depot will fix 99.9% of all your problems.

They don't earn anything at all as resi plumbers. Max if you do a lot of OT is 100k. 300 for callout is bullchit, you just got ripped off. Driving from place to place alone takes up half the day by itself, so anything you pay them needs to be divided by half, then deduct off all the other bullchit he doesn't charge you for - training, licences, vehicle repairs and depreciation, peripheral parts and supplies, etc.

Then he has micro cuts on his fingers from all the tools he's using, and stick his hand into your chit and gives in a good swirl, getting trillions of bacteria into the cuts and getting mega infected.

Plumbers there's 2 sorts - the sort that never falls sick, but always have a bit of pus on their fingers, or those that fall sick half the year thanks to human chit.

I think you could do drain clearing and hot water heater installs and make a pretty straightforward $150k/year, if not more.

The guy who installed my last hot water heater only did water heaters and he was still backed up 5-6 days. Paid about $2500 for him to install a $900 water heater. Took him a few hours, tops.

Same thing when people need to get surgery. LOL at spending thousands going to a hospital to get your appendix taken out when you can do it from the comfort of your own studio apartment.

Its because society has stopped respecting anyone without a college degree so the number of tradies have been going down while number of lesbian fart vocalists have skyrocketed. Yet the demand for unclogging poops have risen as well.

I had to pay $1k for a snake and jetset for my condo's pipe (tenant living there so it was urgent) and the dude probably spent 1.5-2hours MAX on the job. Few jobs can gross 500/hr but i think the profit all goes to the business owner because i doubt plumbers are making 150k-300k based on their lifestyles.

Plumbers dont get paid the money they get paid because they only unclog toilets and fix CPVC by gluing in a coupling... those are the bottom feeders of the industry... residential plumbers.

Some service jobs pay well but you are talking about a very small portion of Journeyman Plumbers who are state tested & certified that are willing to make a career out of it.

**Fun Fact** All of the Medical Gases that are ran to surgical suites , ICU's , & patient rooms that help keep people alive... All installed by Plumbers...Same goes for all of the RO & Ionized water systems.... Potable Domestic water ran to every drinking fountain... Miles of cleaned & capped type K copper with brazed joints while the lines are being purged by nitrogen to keep the system clean...etc. etc.. etc... I could keep going but there is more to being a Plumber than meets the eye.

Even though I dont use it to make my living and havent for some time I still keep my Journeyman Plumbing license current in the state of Texas as a Plan B.... as in if $hit really did hit the fan and I needed to dust my tools off... I can still pull a solid income to make ends meet.

^This. You don't need a license to unclog a plugged up toilet. Everything else with more risk (e.g. high voltage electrical), go with licensed.

LULz... and when Ricardo repairs that busted water main with an old piece of Galvanized pipe he ripped out of some other $hithole on the low you should be fine... lead poisoning is blown WAY out of proportion these days... how bad could it really be??? As long as it is cheap

In 2023, you really need to learn a little about everything if you're going to own a home.

Unless you're doing new construction or major renovations, plumbing work is usually pretty straightforward. There are a couple of exceptions, but for the most part, an average homeowner could do the repairs themselves with a little research.

Learn to solder, learn how to clear drains, and learn how to cement pvc. It's really not that hard.

I'm really surprised HVAC guys haven't gone the way of the plumber with their prices. That chit is legit nearly impossible for the average homeowner, yet they charge a lot less.
