In my experience it is effective, however when I do it, it is specifically to lose weight, so I also incorporate other things like pretty hard caloric deficit, and intermittent fasting.
I have had amazing success without it in the past.
I cannot say with confidence a keto diet is actually the best for losing weight, as I have not controlled all other variables and experimented with just that one thing.
From what I understand about actual research conducted, macro nutrient content is no where near as important as simply restricting calories and cannot be attributed that title.

After that just eating healthy and a calorie deficit is what's needed. Healthy lifestyle not healthy diet.

I was 360 lbs started Keto, tried south beach , and Atkins actually worked best for me… Srs. Metabolic diet. I don’t think the same diet can work the same on everyone.
Atkins now I’m only 248

a modified Keto worked best for me.....incorporating IF & Carb Refeeds.
Keto Sunday morning through Friday evening....So all day Sunday through Friday afternoon Keto with Intermittent Fasting. 18/6.
1st meal Friday....carb the fuk up, Saturday eat whatever you want (still not going over your caloric allowance for the day) but as many carbs as you want.
Sunday....back on strict IF & Keto.
I was aiming for 300g protein & 120g fat....less than 10g carbs. in about 3 months I went from 277 down to 242 11% bf and was way stronger than when I was 277 & fat.

There's literally no way you would be able to properly measure your CO, and the CI is allowed to be off by up to 20%. CICO doesn't work long term because to be sure you have to overcut calories and basically starve yourself.

You weigh yourself regularly and have that adjust your base. Then you take up a walking habit and build up to 6-8 miles and keep that going several times a week, and walk 2 miles on off days. You lift. Maybe you take up a sport and play that.
Keep measuring your weight and measure your waist. Eventually, it will work and the weight will come off over time.
I suggest a small calorie deficit from food so that you will be satisfied, and then don't eat back your exercise calories. If you are very hungry for whatever reason, then eat back half of your exercise calories.
You don't need to be exactly precise because your exercise deficit will cover any fluctuations in CI...over time. But you do need to be serious about it and make sure you're coming close within reason. Don't eat cheat days and ruin a week. If you need to take a break then reduce whatever you're doing to maintenance for a week or two and then resume. If it's 50 lbs give yourself a year. If it's more then give yourself 2 years. If it's over 100 give yourself 3 years or however long it takes.
Thousands of people do this and it's known to work well.
If you make a huge calorie deficit from eating food you'll probably crash and burn. If you use intense cardio you can also crash and burn easily. But you can walk every day. You can be half dead and walk very far. You do need to have good shoes and socks and replace them on time.
It may seem boring, but it does work.

The best diet is the one you can stick to
I prefer a high protein calorie deficit for fat loss

Does keto actually burn more fat, or do people just think they're getting better results because it increases satiety and reduces water weight? I'm assuming the latter
