Truly I say to you, what you are calling sober boredom is indeed peace.
Don't fill the peace. Experience it.

Hasn’t gotten any better after a year of sobriety, either, if anything I have less energy and motivation than at any point in my life

Listen or read motivational books.
Definitely don't stop drinking on your own if it was heavy drinking. Get medical help so you can taper and possibly add in Gaba**** or others to help with the withdrawals.
Withdrawal from alcohol can kill you.

Most of those people in danger of seizures or dying that you see on Intervention and that he saw in the clinic are guzzling about a handle of vodka a day. They have to be medically prescribed alcohol in their detox. Think about just how much alcohol that is. It’s totally sick to even imagine consuming that daily. That would almost be pure torture. None needed that withdrawal treatment from beer whether it was 6 a day or 40 a day.

Know the feels OP. Been drinking A LOT lately, particularly due to the holidays. It's kind of disgusting tbh.
I've done sober months before no problem. My favorite way to cope with the boredom the first couple of weeks is to indulge in some weed. But unfortunately I'm somewhere that you can only get it medically, and I don't have any such access now.
So as someone who's actually currently facing the truest form of bored sobriety, I'd say just keep busy, and get a solid 8 hours of sleep. Wake up early, get your gym and other morning routines done, go to work, and ACTIVELY CHOOSE between the following afterwards: A planned leisurely activity, chores, self-progression (studying), things you always procrastinate on, seeing friends/family you haven't talked with in a while, some sort of philanthropy/charity.
And focus on the positives. You're saving money, getting leaner, avoiding hangovers, avoiding regrets from bad decisions, and improving your health overall.

He could read the books I listed or go to AA meetings in his spare time.
