What's there to reconcile?

Freedom of speech is a right, up to and including being offensive.

It’s all or nothing. If you give an inch, they’ll take a mile. The question always becomes who gets to decide? The individuals that think they are best suited to decide are usually the ones you don’t want deciding. So, you have to take the bad in order to maintain the good.

On a final note, free speech is always best. If you allow all speech, the bad ideas and speech will always get drown out. The quote by Mises speaks volvumes; “Socialism largely succeeds in its establishment because all opposing views are outlawed”. In other words, the people who want to shut down any speech at all are always the bad guys.
One party system; Most Republicans are Democrats, but no Democrats are Republicans.
Hayek and Mises were right; they're all socialists.

yes. the inverse is racist. non blacks cannot say a word because of the colour of their skin. nobody sees it because we live in a world of grown adult professional victims

in actuality were not even saying words merely making noises. by disallowing certain speech you are controlling ones body.

It should be. Why is that word the only word outlawed? Since it’s outlawed, doesn’t it carry a much heavier weight when said? If it were used the same amount as cracker, it wouldn’t have the same impact. Call a white person cracker, then call a black person the N word…you won’t get the same reaction. We get desensitized from the use of words.

Think about it. Even in a discussion, in which the word isn’t even being used against someone, it’s still outlawed. FYI, we don’t have free speech in this case, considering a white person can’t say it in an intellectual discussion. If white’s can’t say it, then no one can. This is unequal treatment and is fundamentally racist.

Preventing them from gathering hinders their ability to actually do anything. America has a surprising number of fascists. But what makes me happy is it also has a surprising number of socialists, and there are more of us than the nazis.

lmfao this white boy is really upset he can't say the n word without social consequences. It's rAcIsM. Surely this is equivalent to slavery, being 3/5 of a person, segregation, redlining, etc.

I only know the MSN side of the story but if someone like Alex Jones says that Sandy Hook was staged so his supporters give the parents of the dead kids death threats and shoot at their houses, then that’s crossing the line of freedom of speech as it’s resulting in harm to others.

I can only imagine as a parent what it would be like to already go through hell and then have a bunch of people threatening you over a “staged” massacre?

That’s one of the craziest conspiracy theories I’ve ever heard.

Yep. Perfect example is Alex Jones. He's a guy whose bs has very little intellectual value and often harms people. He deserved to be punished for his defamatory comments.

I think majority of people auto-regulate the tribe when this happens. Most people with disapprove this and ostracize the individual in one way or another.

That is why I support uncensored speech with the exclusion of calling for an illegal action against some entity.

No they don't. They just harass Chinese/HongKongnese nationals who talk trash against the ChinaGov.

Bad look for the Aussie gov not cracking down hard on unofficial police stations though.

The first amendment was intended to protect speech that hurt peoples feelings.

People just need to deal with it.

It doesn't mean you can say whatever you want without consequence. People seem to think thats what it means but it doesnt.

if you call someone a derogatory term and they dont like it, they dont just have to sit there and take it. Consequences exist.
"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

If there's one consistency throughout human existence, it's that the people who are the most easily offended are always the greatest offenders irl.

Freedom 100%. Who cares if something is offensive to someone? EVERYTHING is.

If I don't like what I hear, I'll remove myself from listening. Now if someone is screaming in my face or some other over the line thing, then that is a different issue. But the speech itself can't hurt me if I don't let it.
