You can feel the tension here in New York, seriously. Small acts of kindness shock people.

It's because of the enormous push towards equality and consensus, though. It breeds fragility and disillusionment. You can tell by the folks who 'state X' who are entirely incapable of considering 'Y'. It's 'X', just so. And shakes their entire existence if someone sees it differently.

We aren't equal, and artificially pushing for that in anything over equality of opportunity is a sick joke.

I certainly hope you earn more today than you did in your college years.

They do, but is that cause to live in perpetual misery?

I get that, but when - for any period of time in human existence - was "everything rosy"?

What were Gen Xers doing, instead of raising their kids properly? Something's strange about the skip.

That's not the point. You're babbling now. Reminder:

And there's not the tiniest hint that this is true. Look at the world around you.

Truth.

Hebrews 11:6

"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to Godmust believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
"The reason we are being murdered with genetic altering drugs is its slow acting and it causes your body to malfunction and destroy itself so there is a "plausible deniability" factor. Unlike most poisons which leave more evidence of being the direct cause of death."

People no longer feel safe and at home in the world. Everything feels more difficult and complicated for them. Personally, if I had money I’d live a quiet rustic life. No tv or internet. Shut the world out. A tree is still a tree, a blue sky is still a blue sky. I remember reading once that Johnny Depp spent a year in the gardens of his French château just watching the plants and flowers grow. I’d do that.
Why is it 'social media' that shreds what one holds dear apart? I'm happily married - social media doesn't change that. Not even the embittered naysayers on this forum, and elsewhere. The modern cope is 'that's a humble brag!', whereas a healthy mind set could say "Good for you!"

So if seeing social media corrupts what you hold dear, I'd recommend taking a step back. As you mention in your post. We do nature trips and get away too and it's wonderful. When I saw a 3000 year old tree in Sequoia it took me a while to process it.

Also its how theres now been a long enough period of civil stability that several families have formed substantial amounts of generational wealth. While those without are truly left behind in the dirt.
