It would be pretty remarkable if crypto actually surpasses the highs back in November 2021 when interest rates were still zero

I think it's likely because of the ETF factor. They've made it so much easier for anyone even slightly interested in bitcoin to buy a portion. And for financial advisors to sell it to their clients.

Many people were put off by the various steps needed to buy bitcoin previously.

That still probably wouldn't explain why a speculative asset with no intrinsic value would be worth more today than it was when you could borrow money for free, zero interest rates being massively supportive for speculation

I own a fair amount of ETH/BTC, but whenever I see people on the misc bragging about their crypto/tech stonk gains, that's a pretty solid signal that we're nearing a local top. Once those dudes disappear, that's the time to start buying more aggressively.

I own no crypto but following the events very closely as find it fascinating since 2013

Potentially the first and only time we might witness something like this so its a fascinating case study.

that said, it will bottom out eventually. When 99% of people buying crypto are buying it because they can see the value growing on a chart is telling. Gone are the days where Crypto uses were actively discussed and tangible uses of BTC were accepted. Now it just seems like a false investment.

People are investing in crypto so they can eventually exchange it back in Dollars.

it's very interesting to see how this plays out now. It probably might hit 100k, maybe even more but I'm curious to see if/when it eventually starts dropping only to never peak again. I personally think this will be the likely outcome as again there is no intrinsic use for crypto.

I’m oldcel enough to remember doomsday being predicted every year of my life, one worse than the other. Nothing ever happens. Market survived 2 nuclear bombs, 2 world wars, market crashes, depression, skyscrapers falling down next to Wall Street, stock market shutting down for days etc. etc. etc.

Market will ALWAYS go up because of inflation. Food, gas AND STOCKS cost more and more and more. That’s all. That’s the design. Nobody can fight that.

Your premise is wrong. Bitcoin is just a finite supply of something, thus it can be used to protect yourself against inflation. It’s a way to hedge. And to transfer funds easily for free and quickly.

Sigh… it doesn’t work like that. When Saudis invest 100 billion in bitcoin, they don’t sell. People who bought NVDA at $4 are not selling either. You borrow against your assets, this way you don’t pay tax either. You don’t sell and send money back to your bank. Only morons do that Rich people borrow at 3%, and since sp500 goes up 12% you never actually have to pay for anything, you just put it on your balance sheet. You have this much, you owe that much etc. Fidelity lets you do that starting at 500k. Lesser mortals can just take out home equity line of credit.

All these people like Elon Musk don’t actually have bags of cash under their bed. When they want something, they borrow against their portfolio.

Explain to me what happens when supply runs out

Idk how people can predict this, cause if someone comes along and pays 50 billion for some nobody knew that amount would come out

I know the halvening continously makes it harder to mine, prolonging the supply.. but theoretically.. my aforementioned about not knowing how much some can buy

I understand when bitcoin supply runs out, it is now more rare, perhaps exceedingly so... i also know you can send .0000001 bitcoin

Your supply is now out. You can only send bitcoin to and fro. Why would anybody use it? Is it amazingly fast? No. Does it do something other things cant do? No. Its a ledger and historical record but so are a lot of things. Its not untraceable

Its actually not very good as a currency, as a lot of other cryptos are better

So why would its value continually go up? Introducing someone new would require devaluing it by spreading out the amount someone has

Lots of things are finite but that doesn't make them worth anything. That they are an accepted medium of exchange makes them worthy. Gold is worth something because you can exchange it for fiat currencies easily.
