For some reason I've never actually had more than one round of interviews in my field.
It's worth a shot. They will be used to subcontracting out certain roles and just paying hourly for the work that needs doing is cheaper for them when they don't have a lot of work.

You've never worked for a large consultancy have you? Initial phone/zoom interview with HR, interview with line manager, presentation, rubberstamp by director/partner is more the norm.

Subcontracting is plug and play; they are a tool to do the job and you don't care about company fit etc. If their resume shows similar projects, they look and sound ok and you can charge them out at a profit, it's all good.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.

They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster......

When you say large consultancy I'm not sure what you mean, but most of my career has been at an engineering consulting firm. We never had contractors, always did the work in house.

I'll give it a shot, but I think the recruiter will not want to help because I imagine he won't get his cut if I'm simply a consultant to the firm.

200k isn't crazy high I don't think- if you are worth it. Idk why people are acting like that's outrageous when it's not for tech managers.

They are def looking for other people, but don't go down on price or accept anything less if you think you're worth it. If the company has big upside then $200k is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Problem is we are in a very bad tech down market and there's prob a million jobless tech people with your skillset so they can find someone else cheaper who is desperate.

Scenario B is that they dont want to start paying you that salary until a new project starts and they do want you perhaps. Most likely they are shopping around of course

Interesting, I'm hunting for pretty much this exact job right now as well, what engineering discipline?

can you name the company? (or PM me)?

Put yourself in their position.

They are a tiny company with only 20 employees. They interviewed you and liked you - if they are about to invest 200k into your Miscing ass then they better have enough work for you.

Also, they are shopping around.

They don't want to pay you 195k per year obviously . You answered your own question , they're looking for someone cheaper.

I'm at the point where I don't believe a single fukin word miscers say about their wealth/income unless they're claiming to be broke lol

Well to be fair, and I probably should've mentioned this - the recruiter said in the initial outreach that they can pay up to $200k, perhaps even higher for the right person.

I figured I was within their range so didn't think I was asking anything unreasonable.

It's not tech though, it's old school traditional engineering.
