Then the years I didn't work the credit card balance was much higher, even though I wore clothes that were 10 years old.

So to escape when things were really bad with the husband I started going to Florida often with the justification that it was cheaper than getting my own place, which was true, but still, it was out of my budget.

So I set aside $500 a month to pay off the credit card debt 3-4 years ago and stopped going to Florida. Any other trips I went on were financed by eBay sales.

It's like a huge set of bricks off my back.
nanny, $25k/year school, toys galore, amusement parks and trips to florida as a stay at home mom? sheesh

Better to pay everything with cash, than have a credit card.

I was a stay at home Mom for 4 years and worked full-time the rest of the years.

My husband spoiled her 10x more than I did. She basically lived like a Kardashian as a teenager.

Well, we helped "invigorate" the economy, lol.

It's the people who can't live within their means that are ruining society. Giving them a break just makes things worse.

It's called enabling.

Democrats are so bad for our country. I don't understand why everyone doesn't realize it.

Depending on the total owed you'd probably have been better off at some point saying fuk it and defaulting, then waiting a bit and paying a service to get the negative marks on your credit removed, while rebuilding your credit. From ??? down to 500s, back up to 700+ in 2-3 years if done right.

Well I knew I had a ton of equity in the house that was growing so that was in the back of my mind to pay off the credit card with that. My credit score is in the 800s now so I wouldn't want to mess with it.

But it is what it is. I just have to be careful not to overspend again.

your husband was okay with you taking a second loan into your house to pay off credit cards?

I'm beginning to think how much credit even matters with how much the cost of everything is going up. What exactly is the point? to have credit for what? buy a house that takes 30 years to pay off lmao that you have to pay a tax on every year because you "own" it lmao. All while they increase their interests rates at will. It's all a scam.

I just told him the interest rate was much lower on the Discover home loan. The problem with high credit card debt is that your interest is, for instance, $250 a month, so you never crawl out from under it.

alot of cards will offer you 0-10% if you call and ask. they close the account but who cares. just pay it off and get a card again.

I thought that closing accounts can affect your credit score?

it will but it's so easy to build it again once you pay off the card. what closing account essentially does it cut out the average age of your credit. but if you owe 30k in debt paying interest what would you rather have zero interest or a high 600- low 700 credit score. pay off the card have a mid credit score for a year or 2 and you will be offered by someone to get a new card. use it smartly and you're credit will be over 700 few years later 800.
