I'm skeptical of the real threat level of anything that is allowed to drag on for years and years with sudden posturing in an election year.

If Tik Tok was a spy tool it could have been shut down under existing law. I read this new bill yesterday, it's convoluted and will likely result in years of litigation if anyone wants to fight it.

I was ok with preventing China from extracting data directly from TikTok for the purpose of finding vulnerabilities and spreading propaganda. However, as usual, instead of holding China responsible, the politicians decided to exploit the situation to create a backdoor to violating the first amendment.

well this makes a lot of sense and explains why congress passed it in the first place.


the news presented it as congress just "banning tik tok" but what they really did is made a new law that gives the government broad powers to ban whatever they dislike.


they could have just made a law to solely ban tik tok and nothing else. and if china makes a new app that is big, meet again to ban that. they will tell you its too hard to get together to meet every time but they can get together to pass a law funding israel over the weekend in like under 24 hours if israel requests war money. so best believe they could make a new law for every app if they really desired.

I used to listen to Levin a lot when he spoke a lot about constitutional law. I learned a lot from him on that subject. Over the last year, he has lost me as a listener. I could say the same about him being a "pseudo libertarian". Some of the stuff he's been spouting off about is definitely not libertarianism.
