Career trajectory probably plays a big role in this, how difficult your work was and the path getting there etc. I’ve known many guys who won’t retire even when they should, I’ve known guys who you can’t keep away from work even when they have one foot in the grave.

Yep….agreed.

There's a million possibilities of interest to pursue and excel at but that may require some discipline of searching and trying different fields of interest.
Personal responsibility, I should add.

I've responded to a few topics on this subject here and on a couple of music/song writing sites.
One of my favorite (sarcasm emoji here) takes on it is when some guy will say: "I'm going to wait until 70 to get a higher monthly amount"
Me….I just SMFH and politely respond by answering: "So, you must know how long you're going to live?"

Surely, all here must see the long view logic in my response.

ngl one of my bosses at work said he tried to retire like 3-4yrs ago then came back.

then my dad retired at like 60 & said he was thinking about going back.

not sure if its bc of nagging wives at home or something but there is no fukking way on this planet earth i would ever, under any circumstances, think about going back to a permanent W2 after retiring

now would i take a job in alaska just for the summer after i build out my campervan? absomothafukkinglutely.

And, it is frequent enough to be a "thing", so some people are afraid to retire besides just needing purpose.
So after she left her job, got her severance package, etc then she conveniently dies? Did anyone verify who got the life insurance benefits and whose name(s) were on the will to inherit her fortune?

(I'm not trying to insinuate that her direct family did anything to her, but one must consider the in-laws and those who would benefit from payouts even indirectly. And the same theory applies to anyone else who suddenly dies after retirement).

Exactly. I've seen old people while on hikes, biking etc. It's a matter of having actual hobbies. If someone never talks about doing actual activities, guaranteed they don't have any hobbies.

Yeah some people have no personality out side of work - then again when you're 70 it's not like you can retire and train 2 hours every day and take cell tech to get huge, you just sit around doing fckall

Work long and hard enough and it’s basically built into you to work. The issue with what you are describing is that they haven’t put their work into passion projects or hobbies. Otherwise, they would not have a need to go back into the office. Your efforts should be balanced between what you need to do and what you want to do.

It depends on personality type. If somebody is highly goal oriented, always pushing to achieve more etc, it is very difficult for them to just turn that off.

I'm not retired, but I went from 80+ hours a week for 20+ years to 40 hours a week when my daughter was born; which I consider semi retired. My time is spent looking after and now teaching her about the world.

I couldn't have just given myself 40 more hours to do stuff in without something specific to do. I would have driven my wife crazy with this project and that project.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.

They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster……

That being said, just watching sports or gaming or gymcelling’s a hollow fukin life. A part of me gets where they’re coming from.
