That boat is only good enough for 4 people. That engine is very underpowered. You will be spending money on repairs so make sure you have extra laying around.

To be fair, the 3 black people in my life all swim, but 2 of my good white friends can't srs. I fkn lol @ one of them. He's a muscly dude and when he comes boating with us always has a life jacket on like a little kid. He's also like 5'7" and his feet kinda dangle without touching the floor.

Boat lift brah, I used to have them pull my boat out of the water and dry store it until I call and tell them I'm fishing tomorrow.

Budget for dry dock or wet slip instead of trailering it around. IMHO the most important part of boat ownership.

There is no way I'd buy a boat with a 20 year old I/O motor. If you are going to buy in that range I'd buy something with an outboard so you can swap it out if/when it dies with a newer 4-stroke outboard. New outboards are super reliable. Also plan to spend that 10 grand again on a new outboard.

As far as not being able to swim you should take lessons ASAP and get comfortable in the water. Drowning is the most beta way to die.

I've worked in the boating industry for around 15 years and I'd have two main concerns with this specific boat. First of all, the size. We no longer sell or even take 18' boats on trade. They are just way too small. Everyone who gets them doesn't factor in the space it takes to bring all your gear, cooler, friends etc. They never keep them long and always want to trade up to at least a 21'+. 18' boats are also very narrow. This boat is probably only around 7'6" wide, whereas a 21' boat is typically around 8'6" wide. That makes a huge difference.

My second concern would be the outdrive. It's a good motor and not underpowered for that small of a boat, but when a boat gets to be that age if it hasn't been maintained meticulously we almost always find issues in the outdrive. Boats don't have to be expensive to own if you maintain them properly from the start, but alot can happen in 20 years. Many of our customers spend $400-$600 total in annual maintenance. The ones who don't come back 3 years later and find major issues.

Save yourself alot of frustration and buy a slightly bigger boat. Also, I recommend buying from a dealer directly where they can pull the drive and do a full inspection. If you are buying private party, hire a marine surveyor to check it out. It's basically like a home inspection on a boat.

He is right. I lasted 1 year with an 18' boat before buying a 20.5' boat. He is right on the widths too. That 1' of width is a HUGE difference. A 20 or 21' boat is going to handle chop 10x better than a 17' boat also.
