That boat is only good enough for 4 people. That engine is very underpowered. You will be spending money on repairs so make sure you have extra laying around.
What kind of muppet doesn’t know how to swim? How can you even save your family if you can’t even swim, forget about even owning a boat!

Theres a reason the vids get passed around. And its not because everyone gets thrown a flotation ring and everyone lives happily ever after.....

Growing up around lakes and being on the swim team, I cannot fathom how people aren't able to swim. It feels so natural. If you don't know how to swim, you better take lessons, or you WILL sink like a fukkin rock after 10 seconds of flailing around while you start going down (from what I've seen)
dont watch those types of vids bro

To be fair, the 3 black people in my life all swim, but 2 of my good white friends can't srs. I fkn lol @ one of them. He's a muscly dude and when he comes boating with us always has a life jacket on like a little kid. He's also like 5'7" and his feet kinda dangle without touching the floor.

Guess we're breaking down stereotypes here on the misc.

Maintenance, tags etc too

You never buy a 20 year old boat

I woodn't buy one at all, they're nothing but money pits

Source: used to own a 21 footer & then a 35 foot luxury cruiser; the cost to have someone clean the underside every year was more than buying a used car
Boat lift brah, I used to have them pull my boat out of the water and dry store it until I call and tell them I'm fishing tomorrow.

I no longer have my boat but I plan on getting a better one within 12 months.

I thnk your problem is that you don't really like fishing lol.

Budget for dry dock or wet slip instead of trailering it around. IMHO the most important part of boat ownership.

There is no way I'd buy a boat with a 20 year old I/O motor. If you are going to buy in that range I'd buy something with an outboard so you can swap it out if/when it dies with a newer 4-stroke outboard. New outboards are super reliable. Also plan to spend that 10 grand again on a new outboard.

Looks decent. I'd make sure he runs it. Get him to take you for a spin on the lake.

As far as not being able to swim you should take lessons ASAP and get comfortable in the water. Drowning is the most beta way to die.

I've worked in the boating industry for around 15 years and I'd have two main concerns with this specific boat. First of all, the size. We no longer sell or even take 18' boats on trade. They are just way too small. Everyone who gets them doesn't factor in the space it takes to bring all your gear, cooler, friends etc. They never keep them long and always want to trade up to at least a 21'+. 18' boats are also very narrow. This boat is probably only around 7'6" wide, whereas a 21' boat is typically around 8'6" wide. That makes a huge difference.

My second concern would be the outdrive. It's a good motor and not underpowered for that small of a boat, but when a boat gets to be that age if it hasn't been maintained meticulously we almost always find issues in the outdrive. Boats don't have to be expensive to own if you maintain them properly from the start, but alot can happen in 20 years. Many of our customers spend $400-$600 total in annual maintenance. The ones who don't come back 3 years later and find major issues.

Save yourself alot of frustration and buy a slightly bigger boat. Also, I recommend buying from a dealer directly where they can pull the drive and do a full inspection. If you are buying private party, hire a marine surveyor to check it out. It's basically like a home inspection on a boat.

Usually don't know whats going on as you see some ****** kids set a cellphone down on a rock, and all 3 kids walk into a tiny natural pool, only for them to for whatever reason, lose the ground they are standing on and struggle.

None make it out of the water.

WTF even went down in that one, nobody knows. And thats just one vid.

I've already posted the white dude jumping into the water to help a drowning black dude, but both get pulled under and never come back up. Reason nobody should jump in to help unless you're a trained lifeguard... Seen too many people die from "helping".

the more I look at the boat it does look tiny. how do you fit 2 adults, kids, cooler, floaties etc on that thing.
He is right. I lasted 1 year with an 18' boat before buying a 20.5' boat. He is right on the widths too. That 1' of width is a HUGE difference. A 20 or 21' boat is going to handle chop 10x better than a 17' boat also.

In before we get a video of OP fumigating the lake with his boat like he does with his mower.

One of my friends from high school invited me and my then gf to go kayaking with him and his gf. While on this trip I found out that he couldn't swim. I'd known this man for years and had no idea. I was flabbergasted. I couldn't believe he didn't know how to swim
