This is the most plausible explanation of the Japanese crash that I've seen:
Basically, some institution in the Japanese market wanted to make a big trade and executed it badly, which pushed the market down, and that set off a cascade of panic sales and margin calls.
Another interesting thing is that Treasury yields are down only slightly. If this were a real crisis that could threaten the financial system and lead to a bigger selloff, I would expect yields to be down much more since that's always happened in past crises.

He's guessing about what happened, but he's had a lot of good commentary about Japan in the past, so I take him seriously.

A good deal of this is being attributed to the Yen carry trade unwinding from international investors who were previously borrowing money in Japan for free because zero interest rates and then using it to buy assets in other currencies
Now that the BOJ hiked rates and the market didn’t see it coming at all, that bigly changes the carry trade equation

Analyze what happened during the pandemic and learn from it.
A poor person could easily wait for **** to hit the fan and everything to tank, and turn $3,000 into $30,000 within a year once things hit new lows.
Just be patient. Dont rush in. We are nowhere near the bottom yet.

This dip won't be very deep. There is 65% more money running around today compared to before COVID (M0 supply), and stocks are only up 55% since then. Normally, the correlation between monetary inflation and index price growth is absolutely slavish.
Options are too expensive to play right now while volatility is so high, but I would bet on SPY making up all these loasses turning around in about 2 weeks. There's just too much money chasing too few investments for it to fall further.
