You are buying a new console, you aren't upgrading your console.

Theres no upgrade paths for consoles other than Sony or Xbox just releasing an entirely new console. You don't get to choose anything about "upgrading". It's simply if you want to buy a new console or play on the old one. Your "options" aren't really options. It's old, or new.

It just seems goofy to try to compare "upgrading" your console to a PC. If you wanted to "upgrade" right now, you can't. There's no ps5 pro that exists. You upgrade only if Sony gives you the choice.

It really comes down to ray tracing. A 4090 at 4k can run rt pretty well iirc, not sure but im thinking 60 fps lol

Does ps5 have rt?

I think it mostly comes down to future proofing and what you want to play and run at. I just bought a new pre built with a 4070 ti super and it runs everything I play at least 120 fps as long as the game supports it. I'm still using 1440 monitors and won't be upgrading that any time soon though. If you want 4k and want a GPU that will last for 6+ years then it might be worth it but I'm not the person to ask on that.

PS5 has only very basic RT right now so games like Cyberpunk barely look any different to me when it's turned on.

And then you basically lose 60fps and it's taken down to 30, absolutely not worth the tradeoff.

RT just wasn't a big focus when those consoles were being designed pre 2020, but based on leaks a highlight of the upcoming PS5 pro will be RT. Sony is apparently adding their own custom hardware solution for it, and will supposedly be up to 4x the RT capability of the base system. Still won't be anywhere as good as the top GPUs out there but it's a start and a lead up to next gen which I think they'll go all in.

I don't even care that much about native 4k, current upscaling on PC is a beast and less taxing.

If the new line of consoles can output 1440p and implement those upscaling methods to 4k then it would be perfect for my TV size.

I have a 3080ti

Thats my point tho, there's a myriad of choices for me as an upgrade path. For you, there is one, if/when Sony releases a pro. Even aside from just a gpu, there are other ways to upgrade a computers performance.

Sure, don't see where we disagree, I never claimed console users had a myriad of upgrade paths, I just claimed the PS5 pro was an objective upgrade path. One upgrade path is still an upgrade path.

PS5 pro is coming out this year and will outperform most PCs, including your laptop.

Sure, the top 1% of PC users who have a $3k rig are the master race but the vast majority of PC users don't have such a setup. Don't you think it's a little bit weird that the majority of PC users who have mediocre rigs try to include themselves in the "master race" when the Pro console will run circles around them?

I'll gladly admit that top PCs are master race as long as you also admit that your poverty laptop is not a part of it.

Deal?

Lol

It is, but only due to the fact that it plays on a 4k oled

Major upgrade because it's like almost raytracing or even better

To be fair, Twitch doesn't do 4k.. or even 1440p… so when streaming why bother? That said, the actual pros want as much FPS as possible, and likely have 240-360 hertz refresh rate monitors, to enable them to visualize and react to things slightly better than most people playing at 60-144 fps. Lowering down the resolution enables the higher FPS.

I'm not sure the threshold is quite that high. I just bought a prebuilt with a 4070 ti super and i7 14700k for $1900. Not sure what the PS5 pro will do but after observing the same games side by side on this PC vs a Series X I doubt a pro version of PS5 would beat my PC. Maybe I'd be surprised though.

Also worth noting that I think there are different schools of thought to the "master race" claim. I won't deny there are a lot who only say that in regards to specs and include themselves in the "master race" when they have $1k PCs that would struggle to run some games that a PS5 would run well. Similar to SEC fans who chant SEC and live vicariously through Bama and Georgia. But I think the claim also applies to the customization options available regarding components, as well as the ability to mod games.

Modding plus M&K support are the only reasons I even have a gaming PC. Either console would be good enough from a graphics and framerate perspective for my preferences. And I still play most games on a console anyways.

Depends on how good of an experience you need and how often you plan on updating.

Spending more so you can upgrade less often in dumb. Buying mid range and upgrading more often will give a much better experience on average than buying high-end and upgrading less often.

Though I broke with that and ended up replacing my 3070 with a 6900xt for $130 net. Probably swap out my 7600 for a 9800x3d/10800x3d in a year and half.

Pro will be running around the equivalent of a 7800 xt, which should not be as good as your GPU but your card alone is more expensive than the pro. Your rig as you know is def in the top echelon of systems and I won't say "alot" of people have weaker systems but actually the vast majority.

Theres a couple wild cards with the Pro tho, it will have custom built hardware from Sony added both for RT and upscaling. And one thing people on PC don't often think about is that the PC ports of games are resource hogs compared to console versions. Generally it's easier to optimize for one hardware config vs a huge range of PC combinations.

PS5 Pro specs have already been confirmed to be better than a $3000 GPU. Throw in the fact that PS5 uses a BESPOKE OS not some bloatlord Windows version (owned by pee dough Gates might I add) and space age SSD faster than ANYTHING else on the market. So as a package it's going to be better than a $6000 rig, smaller and QUIETER too.

I've heard the PS5 pro is actually what nvidia uses in their AI farms, just like when Saddam was daisy-chaining PS2s for his WMDs.

Pretty simple. The higher up the stack you go the worse relative value (cost per frame) you are receiving.

Then the next generation comes out and you can get relatively the same performance at roughly half the price as last gen's flag ship.

Almost always there is a sweet spot where value maximizes. The 3090TI is roughly on par with a 7900 GRE and 4070 TI.

Typically the best strategy is to Upgrade your GPU and CPU/MB every 4 years with a 2 year offset. Sometimes you get lucky and can save some money by rolling over your MB/Ram other times not. Assuming a salvage value of $250 and an outlay of $500 ($750 total) you perpetually have a mid tier system.

2017 - 1070 TI
2019 - R5 3600
2021 - 3070ti/6800xt
2023 - R7 5800x3d
2025 - 5070 / 8800xt ?

2017 - 1070 TI
2019 - R5 3600
2021 - 3070ti/6800xt
2023 - R7 5800x3d
2025 - 5070 / 8800xt ?
2027 - R7 10800x3d?
So buy midrange then when the new one comes out buy midrange again since its better than top range of last gen? I guess that makes sense.

So as a package it's going to be better than a $6000 rig, smaller and QUIETER too.
The articles I saw imply that the PS5 Pro GPU will only be about 45% faster than the PS5's. People say the PS5 GPU is similar in power to a RTX 2070 SUPER… a RTX 4080 is still way beyond that, like more than 100% faster.

Anyways there's other cool chit going on with the PS5 Pro I saw. The CPU will be the same but have a turbo mode. There will be ~1.5ish GB more memory. It'll have a PSSR mode, as an answer to rival NVIDIA's DLSS and AMD'S FSR.

Sure, the top 1% of PC users who have a $3k rig are the master race but the vast majority of PC users don't have such a setup. Don't you think it's a little bit weird that the majority of PC users who have mediocre rigs try to include themselves in the "master race" when the Pro console will run circles around them?
This is the hilarious part about PC users. They claim to be master race yet their rigs can barely outrun a PS5.

There is exactly zero chance a PS5 pro will be able to beat a $1000 system and it won't even be close.

However, it will out perform a lot of the aging builds or sub $750 budget builds.
