Sucks.
1. No motivation to study
2. Can't work because of the uncertainty of when things will ramp up again
3. Vacation plans are ****ed up
4. Next semester, there will be no breaks for us
5. The school isn't gonna go easy on us, I'm expecting to write a few tests immediately upon going back

I like having deadlines and I realize now that it's actually something that's necessary for success. If I knew that next week I had a test, then for the next 7 days I'm gonna be studying and preparing at full capacity for those days. Some people think that having an abundance in time for studying the same stuff over and over might be a good thing, but it's really not. You end up utilizing more resources because to stay that sharp for that long is actually quite exhaustive.

Sorry about your situation. Good luck. People who are not attending College or University are aloof to how bad this situation is for our student population, especially when time and money are already tight.

As someone who tutors many young people in college, I completely agree with your sentiment. Nobody gives a phuck about young people.

Well, who is going to support your pension and retirement? I'm sick and tired of the indifference from other members of society

Its going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Most of the best jobs are in the public sector; government related. I live in a government town…these departments just don't crank out the job vacancies like they used to. The private sector should be producing lots of permanent decent entry level jobs in a good economy…I just do not see it, definitely not the way it was in 80s when I finished college. If you had a pulse you could get a very good manufacturing job at the least. All this is complicated by the fact that a lot of folks in their "retirement" age continue to live longer and work however…maybe because the lived too big earlier in their careers and are still paying. Anyway could go on with this all day but coffee break is over. Get educated, live small, be portable, learn another language, and stay healthy.

I'm sure the quality of a condensed semester isn't nearly the same.

That's essentially what it comes down to.

And yes, its really unfortunate that permanent secure jobs are getting really hard to find. Contract work (which is one of the main reason why college teachers went on strike) and gigs is the new thing. Makes it really hard to buy a house or having kids. Unless you a make a really big salary or you work in the public sector, retirement is also gonna be very problematic for many of us.

For sure: demographics, govt policy and risk-averse corporate behavior have all led to where we are today. Canada has under-invested in innovative technologies for so long - no wonder why many of our industries are no longer globally competitive. Public sector's inefficiency creates a dead-weight loss on the economy. Indirectly drags down the private sector (e.g. bloated CRA) Good luck when next wave of automation hits.

I remember an economist forecasting that Canada's trajectory will look a lot like Japan - prolonged stagnation. As I still have some gas left in the tank, certainly do not want to stay here much longer.

Definitely taking your advice by setting up a cross-border company and learning French. Will be relocating via grad school in a couple of years once my company achieves stability and after I get better at coding.

Ontario brahs, college strike's over. Classes begin Tuesday. Good luck.

Know what the worst part is though? Nothing was solved. It was a back to work legislation that was passed. So let's just say battle won/lost, but the war ain't over. This could very well happen again in the near future and we'll be stuck in limbo again.

Nah, they want more full time positions and want more academic freedom similar to what Uni prof get.

The vast majority of prof are contract workers and need to reapply for their jobs every few months. They are also kept working only a few hours a week to keep them in a lower pay/benefit bracket. In certain situations it works out alright if for example the prof is retired from his prof career and want to come back and teach part time. Or some profs can work another job part time and come to the college to work part time. But it's usually not the case and the quality of the education is really going downhill from what I've heard. They often have to correct exams/papers on their own time (not paid). To a certain point I agree with that they are fighting for. College in Ontario is becoming a joke school. Prof come in, teach an entirely pre-made course and leave. Students go to the administrator the second they aren't happy with their grades or are failing and usually are easily able to pass the course and change their grades.

Yeah it has been.

Well life is boring right now. I'm honestly really bored with everything and need a massive change soon.

Training well I officially retired about a month ago just had zero motivation. I'm still sorta going to the gym but have no goals to work to, I should really be focusing on dropping weight but I don't have any motivation to do that either.

Gotta do something to change things up to get me going again.
